The second step on this journey of self-discovry with pixel art.
This time, a simpler Renamon using the original Gameboy color palette and screen size (160x144 pixels).
I wanted to see if I could do anything remotely recognizable with the restrictions of only 4 colours and a small size (I generally go for larger canvas than the final image because, lacking the self discipline of more mature(?) artists, I tend not to draw the larger features first, before engaging the details. In fact, the eyes are generaly what I draw earliest. Something to correct I am sure.
I considered adding more detail, but given the size of the "screen" and the range of colours available to me, ended up deciding against it.
I am having a lot of fun doing these. Pixel art ended up being a lot more demanding than I was expecting but also ended up returning unexpected rewards. I noticed it forces me to consider the larger picture I was talking about first and also to keep in mind the general shape and flow of bodies and movement.
Let's hope I can translate that into the more detailed and "free-hand" drawings I do.
