..after long hours playing Frontier Pilot, moving cargo around.... that awesome one to the right, to me, could well fulfill both roles.. also, looks sweet.. those engines must have quite a roar to them.. ^.^

The right one can serve many roles obviously, much like a C130, just with added hips to survive orbit and re-entry.

Only major critique I would have is that the right one, with the rear engines mounted closer to the main hull, and behind the leading wing, would inhibit airflow to a considerable extent (assuming those are air-intakes on the front of the engine pods.)

There is truth in that. There's a question of how much the rear engines will be used for actual flight, but it's a valid objection.

Very nice, but I would have moved the intakes up, or blocked out half the intake, so there would not be any ingestion of foreign objects, kicked up by the down blast. Keeps things easier to maintain, But the designs are pretty solid.

And these are the things I miss out on for not having immersed myself enough in the matter X3 thinking about it though, I don't think the engines would ever actually point forward during take off anyway. In fact, the craft probably sits on the engines when they're tilted.

Oh Im always daydreaming about aircraft and space craft, and thinking of them in motion and how they work. (Also fantasy worlds and watching Asheru interact with it. ). I may have been a frustrated engineer due to poor math skills.

Having them land and take off on the engines would possibly result in an explosion XD. Look at a V-22 Osprey for the treatment of the engines and clearances.
