Here's a rather quick painting actually, watched the new Narnia movie two days ago and for those uninitiated it's WETA Workshop that makes all the specialFX in the movie, including the life-like and in my opinion awesome minotaurs.
So, here's my little adaptation of the style, looking at the movie and trying to adjust to a more true-to-the-original creature rather than my own quite weird mix. It includes the slanted eyes, the musculature around the eyes, the furrowing of the brow and the bunching of fur that I usually wouldn't do.
Been a fun excercise but unfortunately this picture is very poor when it comes to pose as you can see... nothing really going on besides that vacant stare into nothing.
---
This time around I've been using Stamp-tool to great effect as well, the light density hairs on the chest and arms for example is a mix of layers with dark and white respectively and then using the Stamp to plant the pattern as well as rotating the source (there's actually a window for Stamp Source in Photoshop that lets you do tons of cool stuff with the Stamp-tool I didn't know before).
Also, I'm bittersweet about the movie. I read the books when I was a kid and thoroughly enjoyed it, the Dawn Treader in particular... but all the blatantly religious nudges throughout that I didn't actually catch up on when I was a kid makes me cringe now. Sometimes I just wish C.S.L. would have kept it free of that, as I thoroughly enjoy the story and the setting.
