Design & Color test for a Japanese-inspired tattoo design for a new character. The cherry blossoms in the final design will be carried over into the entire tattoo and not just in the left arm sleeve; also, the phoenix design will be a bit different. The back piece isn't changing; I love Koi, and besides I'm a Piscese.
This is what we call "Art Masochism"... because I'll probably want to kill myself every time I try to draw this character ;)

These are really going to drive you nuts if they crawl off the chars arms and move around on his skin... you won't even be able to draw it the same way twice! The fish might decide to swim to the backs of his hands, and the dragon might curl around his neck for a nap... you'll never get it right, cause it'll always be different as soon as your done! XD
Very lovely design and styling though; I agree with the above sentament that if youcan DO the tattooing, you can still make drawing impressive designs for tattoo artists a good business in and of itself.

Jeebus. Masochism is right. That's fantastic, but just the idea of drawing it multiple times (ok, even once) makes my head spin.
If needles creep you out you could always sell flash art for studios to hang on their walls.
Random question: Did you ever do that playing card project and are you planning on producing them? I'm playing with the idea of making pawprint poker-chips. Could be a fun collaberation.

This would make great flash.
You could try makeing up a series of pages filled with small tattoo-ready images and selling them to a shop.
They'll get hung on the wall to be seen by prospective tattoo customers.
I've done so myself (mine were not accepted) and know people who have.

Very nice design! I love how you managed the way the pieces would wrap around, and even though it's made of a few different elements, you've kept them integrated very smoothly. It definitely seems like it'll be a challenge to keep it on model if you're going to do it by hand, but I imagine it'll provide some excellent experience!
