I was rigging (the 3D equivalent of adding armature to a doll) and suddenly it was 1 o'clock and my hand hurts
Nothing like rigs to show you how terrible your topology is! But the feet are animating great
I have to move some bones/joints, but I don't know if I can go back and do that now without losing my work hmm
(the right side has not been worked on at all, s'why it is exploding)

After rigging in both I tend to like max far better. It's the same work load but the way max is structured where everything is stack based makes it better for visual people while maya is comprised of invisible nodes, which in my opinion makes it harder on right-brained people.
Make sure on the all joints that there are 3 uninterrupted edge loops. In this, the elbow joints start to have 3 but on edge gets merged into another line.

The part about "(the right side has not been worked on at all, s'why it is exploding)" ?
Well you can assign verts to a bone and weigh them, but it's not called "painting", although it may be able to show influences in a colour, not sure.
The reason things are sticking out on the right side is the envelopes not grabbing, though, but I ended up mostly fixing that with weights because the finger envelopes perpetually overlapped each other - maybe if I model the hand stiff and flat with the fingers spread it wont, but I model them in a fairly relaxed pose
