Modified tracing from Ian LaSpina's aka Knyght Errant's work I did to farther my studies on creating as authentic as possible armor for furry heads. Was a bit of work figuring out how to best deal with having antlers. This can be more less copied for others when excluding the antler holes and or changing the ear hole position.
He is super knowledgeable on armor so if you are looking to learn more then I recommend taking a look
What you are seeing:
Vervelle
Orle padding roll to help dampen a direct blow to the head and also has decorative purposes
Aventail and liner (padding). The Aventail (chain) will affix to a leather strap that the liner is swen onto. It will then be placed on the Vervells and then cord will be run through the holes in the vervells to hold it in place.
Bascinet
If you are going to ask; the bottom is detachable simply because my character has antlers. it is very hard to do helmets for things with horns and antlers otherwise and from what I have seen, if you want protection the helmet has to have two parts at the very least, three if you want to protect the underside of your jaw.
If you don't have horns or antlers you can make the lower 'chin visor' part of the helm and just have the upper visor that can open and close.
