Cars used to be more beautiful than they are now.
More dangerous too, I suppose, but then there's only so much trouble 58 raging horses, and an 19 second 0-60 time can get you into.

I nearly bought a beautiful shiny red, chrome detailed '79 MGB for $5k USD. Completely rebuilt engine, interior looked great. Unfortunate rubber bumpers though :( Looked exactly like this: http://triumphconsoles.com/db2/0011.....ictures049.jpg
Then I realized I don't know know how to drive manual and spend 90% of my time in LA traffic. Even though now is totally the time I could get away with a 2 passenger convertible roadster, the previous 2 conditions just didn't make it worth it :( Some day!

Ah, there's nothing really wrong with the Rubber Bumper B's! (Well, beyond the fact that Abingdon tore the soul out of the car to meet US safety and emissions regulations, rather than redesigning them. Alas!) They're kinda like unwanted step-children, and that makes them kind of endearing to me :)
Not being able to drive standard might be problematic, though being forced to is a good way to learn I guess. I learned on the job, as it were, on this carpet cleaning gig. After I was hired, there was an 'Oh, by the way. You can drive stick, right?' and I was all 'Um. Sure!'
That poor truck :)

Maybe!
But I blame on car specifically. The poor, put-upon #. And while there might be a more fitting place to stick the blame, Audi is where I put it.
It's a design form that we've not really escaped from. Sure things are more rounded, and less 1984, now, but in the sort of wedge shaped, long, big-butted rear overhang, clean minimalist body without unnecessary bends or shapes in the body panels, we're not really moved on. Designers loved it, because it was uncluttered and aerodynamic, and the book-keepers loved it because it was cheap to make, without any complex or unnecessary bends in the body that they had to tool up for.
But then, this is just, like, my opinion.

Well, hell. I kinda butchered that url tag, huh!

Yeah, perhaps it is our loss. Certainly there have been many more beautiful cars than this, but this is the prettiest one that I've been able to play with.
I suppose it's for the better, though? More powerful cars need to protect you, and others, from that power gone awry. I guess some people don't like using their knees as a crumple zone :)
And, thank you for the compliment. I'm a squalling infant who likes to know that people enjoy my work.

I just got it! "Oh, MG!" Talk about a delayed reaction...
And that link where you're apparently blaming Audi for rounded styling is broken. I'm guessing you're after the 80/90/100, which were a little round, and then there were the later A4/A6s that got rather round too. Still, they gave us the original Quattro Coupe, which presses all my aggressive/angular buttons in the right combinations...
