After melting down, Nightlight wants to kiss and make up. In the end, she is ashamed and afraid of her own temper. As a mare with Unicorn Syndrome, she finds it especially hard to control feelings of anger, anxiety, and distress (cf. this article).
Nightlight's big brother tells her that her fiery emotions are part of who she is. White Night teaches her that there is a safe time and place to let it all out. A tendency to melt down is something Nightlight has to live with. But she can learn not to let it damage friendships. Even so, it will take a lot of practice and patience.
In MLP:FIM, the kirins are a race of creatures that specially resonate with me. Fiery emotions and a tendency to melt down are part of who they are. Fortunately, Autumn Blaze showed that it is possible to let it all out in a safe manner. Autumn Blaze's hyperactivity also relates to me as one on the autism spectrum.
Nightlight has what it takes to become a sweet girl in the way that Autumn Blaze is. Her big brother makes her feel safe and warm, and he helps contain her damage when she explodes. White Night is like a security blanket for his little sister. He is like a nurturing father and a protective mother. Nightlight tends to be shy about showing affection — but she will cuddle with her big brother.

Visual Description:
Nightlight cries into White Night's shoulder. White Night hugs her and gives her a comforting smile. Nightlight's hair and tail are still smoldering a little from her fiery meltdown. White Night's eyes are also a little teary, feeling sorry for his sister but overjoyed by her kissing and making up.
White Night is a white unicorn with a build that balances the cute and delicate with the big and strong. He has wavy hair that straddles the line between wild-looking and well-combed. His hair descends toward the bottom of the neck.
White Night has bright blue eyes and sapphire-colored hooves. His hair is bright cyan-blue with a lightish golden stripe and a darker bluish stripe. He is nearly a head taller than his little sister, Nightlight.
Nightlight is a lightish purplish pink unicorn with bright purplish pink hooves. She has darkish pinkish magenta hair with a dark stripe and a golden yellow stripe.
Nightlight's hair is straight, but it is fairly messy. It extends near the tops of her forelegs. She wears dark violet glasses with half-circle frames. She has darkish purplish violet eyes.

This post goes well if an earlier one that helps to set up, what I'd believe to be, the pilot episodes / chapters of the series. Night Light would have to have one of her 'meltdowns' in order to provide the audience a way to see her challenges and how, despite the support of her brother, how there is far more she needs to do if she is to better be able to control her feelings.
I'd imagine the over-stimulation in the castle would not help much. All the lights, sounds, and people so close together. Getting her into a smaller place with people who can more easily assist in finding ways to manage her emotions would certainly prove a great way to do this, which is what you are going to have done after the introductory eps / chaps.
I am certain White Knight will want to visit his sister, while worrying about her constantly. I now wonder if her being out of his immediate range may drive White Knight to double-down on his ability to keep close tabs on everyone? He does want to be a good 'big brother' and, for him, it has always been through making sure his sister was safe and knew she could learn to control her situations with the right people, places, and situations.

You've given me some more inspiration! White Night himself has OCD, and this makes him a good intelligence agent up to a point. However, he starts to become secretly overprotective -- first of his sister -- then of his wife and the rest of the kingdom. His patriotic zealotry starts to become arrogant without realizing it.
Corruption isn't always about consciously doing the wrong thing. Sometimes it's about convincing oneself that something wrong is actually righteous. To some extent, many corrupted leaders probably believe their own propaganda -- as Starlight Glimmer once seemed to.
