This was kind of a one-off project - I'd been doodling at Grandpa's house and wound up with a dragon that worked fairly well. There's both Chinese and Tibetan influence in the design.
I used a watercolor underpainting to guide the dragon's color scheme, and then polished him off with ink, Prismacolor pencils, and gel pens. I did a partial cut-out so that some of the details extend beyond the rectangular format of the original paper, then I mounted it on illustration board that I'd already painted with ink, watercolor, and acrylic (with salt for special effects). I added a very simple border with scrapbook paper.
The large stone in the elliptical cut-out is called "paradise stone"; it's a variety of jasper.
The smaller stones along the border are unakite.
