I know this may be a bit run of the mill, but this is more of just to set up the background for some of the characters. I hope you like it! And don't worry, pt 2 of the micro sitter is coming, i promise!! :D
Should I Call You Master?
The bars were digging into my thigh for the umpteenth time. I shifted positions again; I was getting tired of doing that. All that was in my cage was this thin blanket and I had to use that to keep warm from the evening breeze as well as to pad the cage’s harsh metal bars. The cage above me was taken away; there goes another… I shuddered. Please don’t let me be next… I though desperately. The crafts fair was coming to an end now, and the once surging tide of norms crowding through the alleys created by stalls selling numerous colorful trinkets had dwindled to a mere trickle. I was one of the 5 or so cages left, and I rejoiced! I would be going back to Master, yes, but at least I didn’t have to go somewhere with a random norm.
Just as Master was packing up my cage into a cardboard box, a voice stopped him.
“Hey, you still wanting to adopt them out?” the voice asked.
Master, a white tiger, replied, “Err… I guess.”
He stood back up and I was yanked from the safety of the box. I reached between the bars that formed the floor of the cage, whining in fear. NO! I thought, please! I was home-free! Master sat down roughly in his folding-chair, and the sudden move caused him to drop my cage. I shrieked in terror as the cobblestone paving rapidly came up to meet me. I curled into a ball just moments before the metal clattered loudly onto the paving stones. I knew I was hurt, but I got up on one leg that just didn’t want to move. I sat there a few seconds, breathing rapidly. Getting up on one working and one not so working leg, I heavily limped over to the newly unhinged cage door and hobbled out onto the path. I’m free!
I got three steps away from that cage… That horrible, awful, cage was finally behind me! Then a wall of brown fur blocked my path. I yelped and fell back, landing painfully on my tail.
“Where are you goin’, little guy?” queried my adopter’s voice from high above.
I looked up, straining my neck. He was a Doberman by the looks of him, and a very intimidating one at that. He wore a pair of jogging shoes and tan shorts, as well as a red tank-top. A small piercing in his left ear glinted briefly in the dusk sunlight. I crawled backwards from his massive hand, desperate to escape him. It was no use however, as his paw simply appeared behind me as well.
“NO!” I shrieked as it covered and closed around me.
I thrashed as violently as my injured body would allow me to, causing seething waves of pain to shoot through my right knee. I cried out in terror as he lifted me to his face. His hand opened up, allowing me to at least crawl back up against his fingers.
“Master! Help me, PLEASE!” I begged.
The Doberman blinked in surprise, “I’m not…”
“I’m sorry, let me pick out another one for you,” Master interrupted, “This one is very timid.”
“No, no, it’s alright,” the canine replied, “I want this one.”
The Doberman looked down at me in such a determined way that made me shudder. Master shrugged, much to my dismay, and picked up his clipboard and a pen.
“Alright, just sign here… and there… alright, signature there… and he’s yours!” Master said with a smile.
He gave the Doberman the piece of paper, and he folded it up and slipped it into his pocket.
“Thanks!” he said as he began to walk away.
“NO! MASTER, don’t let him take me!” I shouted to no avail.
I was too late. The white tiger was already continuing his clean up, and he put my empty cage in with the others. My head snapped up to the Doberman, who was now my new master. I gulped as he looked down at me with curiosity.
“What’s your name, little guy?” he asked surprisingly gently for a norm.
“N-name?” I asked, genuinely confused.
“Yeah, you must have a name, don’t you?” he persisted.
I shook my head, “You name me, right? You give me my new name, don’t you?”
The dog stopped walking suddenly as he looked down at me in astonishment. He blinked a few times, and continued his journey.
It was silent for a few moments, before I spoke up in a shaky voice, “Sh-should I c-call you… M-Master?”
“What?! No! Of course not!” he replied strongly, “You can just call me Luca.”
“But… Isn’t that your f-first name?”
“Yeah. So?”
“All the other n-norms made me call them master…” I explained.
“That’s terrible!” Luca answered as he crossed a fairly empty street briskly.
I was soon overcome with fear and realization, “I-I promise I’ll be a good pet! I swear! I’ll d-do whatever you want! I can g-get you off, I will! J-just let me live!”
I began trembling heavily at this point, not knowing what this norm was going to do with me. A few sniffles escaped my nose as I started to sob quietly.
“Kid, it’s alright! I’m not gonna make you do anything like that,” Luca replied softly.
His thumb came down on my stomach and rubbed tenderly up and down my sniffling body as he “shhed” me. I turned over onto my stomach and burrowed into his warm palm, comparing it to the harsh, cold cage I had grown up in. Luca’s paw felt so safe, so reassuring, so warm… How could this be possible? I thought, How can he actually be nice to me? His thumb continued to rub up and down my back slowly until he reached his home. The norm lived in a small townhouse, and it was pretty much dark outside by the time he walked through the front door.
The lights inside gave the front room a warm glow, and it smelled like cinnamon as soon as the norm entered.
“Home sweet home,” he sighed.
It must have been around seven when he got home. He hadn’t responded to any of my calls or texts, so I was furious at him when he walked through the door.
“Where have you been?” I asked, trying to mask my anger.
“I went to the crafts fair,” the Doberman replied simply.
“You could have told me! I sent you six texts. Do you know how worried I was?”
Luca flashed that wonderful grin at me; I was a total sucker for it.
He chuckled, “You worry too much, hun.”
He gave me a peck on the muzzle as he strode past and into the kitchen. I followed him in.
“Did you at least get me anything?” I wondered aloud.
“Uhh… Does a micro count?” was his reply.
I lit up, “A micro?!”
Rushing over to Luca, he took a step back, obviously startled by my reaction.
“Sheesh! Calm down!” he laughed.
“You know how I am! Micros are the cutest little guys ever!” I asserted.
Luca held out his paw with the micro in it while his other one rummaged through the fridge. I leaned in close to the micro, noticing it was a male lion, about twenty years old. The tiny guy was obviously terrified of me, especially since he had no clothing.
“Aww, hun you didn’t get him any clothes?”
Luca allowed the fridge door to shut. “No. Why would I?”
“He looks cold!” I replied as the Doberman opened a can of beer.
I sat on Luca’s shoulder as he and his mate, a short Bengal tiger, watched some T.V. I was rather confused by the two, mostly because they were both males. However, I knew it wasn’t my place to question either of my masters.
Hey guys sorry this ends so abruptly but I just thought I would finish it just as a quickie. I know I haven’t uploaded anything in a long time, but I promise more is to come! X3
