(Momma Ain't Gonna) Nuke all the Whales for You...

- Yes, this piece takes the piss out of some old, and near-sacred Floyd lyrics… Yes, I will own that. I will also own the fact that this dates to one of my oldest, and thus-far-unused poetry idea fragments relating to one of the first times I heard the album Synchronicity by The Police in its entirety, some time in late 1983, and certain lyrics just jumped out of me. Beyond the obvious gems about little black spots on the sun, there was also a rough diamond like: “Oh Mother dear, please listen… And don’t devour me!”
There is a very primal and very unique brand of formless horror that comes from the first time we see with our own eyes, and/or truly understand that the mother’s ultimate choice to devour her own young might appear to be devoid of all mercy, but it is rarely a wasteful decision, or one which was made lightly.
“‘cause there’s only so much
a Momma’s gonna do…
Momma ain’t gonna
nuke all the whales for you!”
