Actually, there's a canon explanation for how food and drink goes in. Protogens need to eat and drink to survive so the visor is actually just a dome of nanobots. It can split open to form a mouth and jaw for chewing and drinking. They don't even have a lower organic jaw, the whole mouth portion is replaced by mechanical parts
