Took a break from drawin' de porn, for my sanity's sake. But worry not, I'll be back in the funnyanimal ghetto by morning.

It's something from the extreme right wing. The most 'mainstream' I've seen someone with the viewpoint are the authors of that poorly written fundamentalist Christian book series, Left Behind. Since the UN taking over the world thing is a main plot point there. Written clearly by someone who hasn't a clue what the UN is or does. :P
That sounds rather odd to me. I've heard a lot of 'out there' stuff from both the left and right and never heard anything like this. I mean I've heard ideas they think that Russia is spoling for a chance to invade us (which might explain why they are gobbling up all they oil they can for their reserves, so they say). I've heard of China wanting to do the same thing, or just buy us out, as the conspericy guys usualy site China buying up all kinds of buisnesses and land on the West coast. It makes more sense for a single or small coalition of nations to want to grab the US, but the U.N.? they bicker about everything, what the hell makes people think they could work togeather to steal the US from under our noses?
It's something biblical. Folks get fixated on the bit about the antichrist wanting to bring peace. So in their looney minds anyone who wants to bring peace rather than war is essentially a potential antichrist. And thus they see the largest peacekeeping body in the world as the obvious place from where the antichrist will come to end the world.
But eight years ago, Bin Laden was the antichrist. Then Saddam Hussein, because he was from Babylon. Before that I think it was Bill Clinton.
Yeah, it's a scary man, come to disarm the U.S., and we all have to be good soldiers for the light side of the force, because we're all going to see Jesus come to earth, but first we have to have Armageddon, so those peace-loving politicians, who want to deplete the nuclear arsenal, are, of course, Satanic Communistic Mutant Traitors.

First time I've ever heard this theory, and plenty of the libs I know call me a "right-wing nutjob". Still funny, because I honestly think that if that were to happen, that's probably how it would play out. I do think the president is Marxist, but nothing we can't (hopefully) repair after the next election.
I like the comic, but in my opinion the primary reason the U.N. is ineffective these days is because of the superpowers who disrespect it. It's like getting the school principal involved when three or four kids have brought AK-47s to class and are brandishing them at the students, teachers and eachother.
My favorite conspiracy theory is the one about a secret highway being built that runs from Mexico to Canada. This is somehow an awful idea, in the conspiracy theorists minds, since ... I don't know, it would provide easier road-traffic routs into the country from those devilish foreigners? The thing is no one who supports this theory seems to know that three such highways already exist.
Actually, it's not a conspiracy.
That's an actual idea being heavily considered by various individuals who have been purchasing large blocks of land along the I-35 corridor. The idea is to expand I-35 from it's current four to six lanes of traffic, to a super twelve lane highway, running from Texas up to Chicago, where it will break up and spread east to New York via Pittsburg, and north into Canada.
Here in Kansas several dozen people have lost their lands in forced sell outs to the local / state governments along the current I-35 route. Thankfully, Oklahoma residents are still holding out against such actions. And various state representatives in Oklahoma are also against the plan.

This is one of the things I love about conspiracy theories.
The typical pursuer of a conspiracy theory will explain at length to you how stupid, moronic, and incapable their favorite bogeyman is of running the nation...And then go on to point out a vast national or multinational conspiracy which (if it existed) would've gotten whistleblown decades ago even if folks knew it meant being buried alive in fire ants to do it.
Conspiracy theories appeal to the monkey-brain on two levels:
1. I know something you don't know.
2. The reason I can't accomplish anything in life is that They're Out To Get Me.
I've walked several of those so-hallowed halls, and I can pretty well assure you that taken as a whole, our government can't keep things secret. At best they can mislead and try to send up smoke signals. Someone always thinks it will get them in good with the voters to hint about "our ace in the hole", and there are far too many American newsies looking to cut a name for themselves (even without conspiracy theorists) who will follow up on anything that looks scoopable.

That's one of the things I find so entertaining about huge overblown conspiracy theories. If, in relatively recent times, the President of the United States couldn't manage to successfully plan, carry out, and cover up a simple break-in of a small Judean apartme--er, a small rented office, how could NASA fake the Moon landings without someone producing photos of Stanley Kubrick directing Armstrong and Aldrin on the Area 51 soundstage?
....
Okay, that was a bad example. Kubrick would have insisted on a two-hour acid trip sequence if he'd directed the landing.

My favorite is that the people that believe them say all of the fact checking websites must SURELY be run by the people they demonize.
A ton of my far right relatives STILL think the health care bill was about disbanding private insurance and still insist Obama is a Muslim and not a US citizen. Crazy, crazy hateful people.
While I've had more contact with the fringe wacko far right, I HAVE seen the left version too. I had a professor suggest the WHO created AIDS. He did correctly call it before it happened that the USA would use false allegations to invade Iraq, but 90% of what he said was lunacy, just like the far right. If you spew out 500 conspiracy theories a year eventually something will happen that falls in line with it. He suggested the Republicans were going to roll out a secret police before the 2008 elections and make people disappear by the millions. Yeah... right. While I've met many hateful Republicans that suggest people they disagree with should be tortured or shouldn't be allowed to vote, and that kind of attitude is scary, I think most of them would speak up if it actually started to happen.

Explains why he's such an asshat, willing to blame and point scepticism at every democrat yet unwilling to even bitch about the own idiots in the republican party.
I'm fine if you want to nitpick about the opposing party so long as you also recognize the stupidity and evils of your own group without blatently ignoring them.

http://www.peliculasid.com/pelicula.....ove-story.html just see this film
The worst is there actually ARE fiscal conservatives that represent what the GOP used to be about. It's just that they've been overrun by the far right and theocrats.
It is rather shocking in this day to have people yelling racial slurs and bigoted homophobic comments at congress members though, and then there's that one guy that encouraged domestic terrorism against people that voted for the health bill.
I know most people say most Republicans aren't like this, but EVERY single relative of mine believes at least one of the lame conspiracy theories. EACH of them thinks the health bill is about in the end disbanding private insurance, and I'd say 80% of them question Obama's status as a US citizen. It's just nuts that people, some of them that I had respect for, believe such far right drivel that doesn't even have a foundation in reality. I mean come on, it's one thing to disagree with the policies but it's just scary how many on the right behave.

Of course the notions of Obama being a Marxist/Socialist/Communist are far off, but the far right doesn't really care about facts. It's a giant orgy of fear, anger, hatred, and misinformation. It's just sad. I can't even talk seriously with my Republican relatives about any political ideas because they go off on tangents about the latest far right sound bite.
My favorite rightwing conspiracy theory is how a gold fringe on US flags in courtrooms means that the court case is invalid due to something about admiralty law. Look it up for a lark sometime! And if you want a judge to laugh in your face, bring it up as your 'defense' if you're in court!
It's not just an American obssesion. They have their European counterparts, though for them the U.N. is a puppet organization that the United States is using to take over the world.
I used to get lots of junk mail from conservative groups and Ive make some of it available on line.

In fairness, I don't know how many of these are serious and how many are just money making scams.
