Chapter 3
At a restaurant called Denny's, Yami Yugi and Yugi were sitting at a booth table near the exit, and having dinner together. Yugi had the Chicken Philly Melt with the side of onion rings, and a Hi-C Fruit Punch. Yami Yugi had the T-Bone steak and shrimp with the side of hash browns, french fries, dinner bread, and a strawberry lemonade. "This wedding is gonna be great!" Yugi said. "Joey just called me, and he told me that his and Marik's honeymoon is gonna be at the Mall of America." "Oh, that's exciting." Yami Yugi said as dully he tapped his T-Bone steak with his fork. Yugi frowned, and said "Hey, what's the matter, Yami? Why are you being a Debbie Downer all of a sudden?" Yami Yugi put his fork down, and sighed as he rubbed his face, and said "I think that Joey is making a huge mistake in marrying Marik." "What do you mean?" Yugi asked. "Well, I was helping the chefs cook the wedding meals when Marik came in to check up what's on the menu for the big day." "So what happened?" Yugi asked. "Marik tried one of the king crab appetizers, and he claimed that he loves them, but when the head chef put some in a bag for him to take with him, he threw them in the trash can behind his back!" "Oh, he was probably just sparing the head chef's feelings." Yugi said. "Uh, no. He was being fake, and totally insincere!" Yami Yugi said. "He even demanded that the white tuxedo that he was gonna wear to be purple!" "Well, he did wanted to look his best on his wedding day." Yugi said. "But, I did hear him raise his voice at Duke Devlin at the Marriott Ballroom."
"So he was being rude." Yami Yugi said. "But, Duke Devlin was singing off-key." Yugi said. "If it makes you feel any better, though, he's really improving." Yami Yugi sighed, and said "Are you even listening to me?!" "Of course I am." Yugi said. "Marik and Joey are about to be married soon. I'm sure that any negative behavior Marik might be displaying is simply the result of nerves." "And I'm sure that it's the result of being an awful person who doesn't deserve to know Joey, let alone marry him!" Yami Yugi said. "In other words, I'm thinking that Marik didn't really change his ways since Battle City." "Yami, don't you think you're being a teeny tiny bit possessive of Joey?" Yugi asked. "I am not being possessive of Joey." Yami Yugi said. "Besides, I'm dating Kaiba. Remember?" Yugi sighed, and said "Yes, I'm aware of that. But, why? You can do so much better than him, and yet you chose to date him. So, again, why? He's so stubborn!" "Yes, he's stubborn, I'll admit that." Yami Yugi said. "But, that's one of the many qualities that I like about him. Anyway, I am not taking this out on Marik. Every one of our friends is just too caught up in the wedding planning to notice that maybe there shouldn't be a wedding!"
"Look, if you want to talk to Joey about it, that's fine." Yugi said. "But, I think you're overthinking this, and being overprotective." "Maybe, but my point still stands." Yami Yugi said. After they ate their dinner, the left the restaurant." Later that night, Yami Yugi went over to Joey's apartment, and knocked on his door. Joey opened the door, and said "Hey, Yami! Come on in!" Yami Yugi walked in, and Joey closed the door as he said "I'm glad you're here. I have to show you something." They went into the bedroom, and Joey took out his wedding dress from the closet, and said "Check out the wedding dress, I got. Isn't it great?" "Yeah, it's nice." Yami Yugi said. "Listen, I need to talk to you about something." Joey tilted his head in confusion, and said "About what? What's wrong?" Yami Yugi took a deep breath, and said "I think you're making a huge-." Suddenly, Marik who came out of the bathroom stood in the hallway, and cleared his throat. Joey spotted his fiance, and said "Oh, hey, honey!" "He sure has a way of sneaking up on people." Yami Yugi silently muttered. "Can I talk to you in private?" Marik asked. " Oh, sure." Joey said." "Excuse me." Yami Yugi said as he walked out of the room while giving Marik a little glare. He closed the door, and pressed his ear as he tried to listen to the conversation.
"Look, we need to talk." Marik said. "About what?" Joey asked. "It's about Yami." Marik said. "He's trying to come between us." "Oh, no he's not." Joey said. "Besides, he's dating Kaiba. Remember?" "Whatever." Marik said. "Hey, I wanna show you something." Joey said as he took out a purple necklace from a drawer. Marik got a little angry, and said "I thought I made it perfectly clear that I didn't want you to wear that." "But, it was my great-grandmother's." Joey said. "And?" Marik asked. "And I think I should wear it." Joey said. "Are you disagreeing with me?" Marik asked. "I guess I am!" Joey said yelling a little. Suddenly, he screamed in pain, and held his head with his two hands. Marik then held onto him as he said "Oh, dear. Are you getting a headache?" Watching through the keyhole, Yami Yugi noticed Marik's right hand going towards the Millennimum Rod in the right pants pocket, and activating it. Yami Yugi gasped as he watched Joey's eyes turn blank and lifeless, and then back to normal again, and muttered "He isn't just unpleasant and rude. He's downright evil! I knew it! I knew he really didn't change his ways!" He ran off as Marik gave his fiance some asprin, and a glass of water from the bathroom sink. Joey took the asprin, and drank the water as Marik said "Feeling better?" Joey nodded, and said "Yeah." He opened the door, and was surprised to see Yami Yugi gone as he said "Yami? Where did he go?" "Let him go." Marik said as he hugged his fiance. "Huh. It seemed like he had something else he wanted to tell me." Joey muttered. He then shrugged, and hugged his fiance back.
