I finally got some inspiration for Starflight's design and I had to jump on it before I lost it!
For this crossover, Starflight is a Dream Weaver dragon.
While looking at the other Dream Weaver dragons for design ideas I noticed a lot of the Dream Weavers sit or lay on top of their tails. Also, almost every single dragon (if not every single one) has curly horns in some shape or size. I ended up added both of these features to Starflight. Many of the Dream Weaver dragons were decorated with stars and other night time shapes. This works well with Starflight's Nightwing appearance. As an adult, after being blinded by the volcano, Starflight is a diligent librarian in the Dream Weavers worlds. His dragonfly, Scroll, helps him out.
As for the smaller doodles, Starflight has a purple dragonfly named Scroll. He often acts as a night light for Starflight's late night reading. I also drew Starflight with the dream visitor. Apparently the dream visitor is suppose to be a star shaped sapphire, but I remembered it as a star sapphire instead. Whoops. Star sapphires are spherical in shape and have a specific way they reflect light resulting in a star shape on them. I ended up drawing it this way. Interestingly enough, the Dream Weaver's Boss world is volcanic and is the home of one terrifying looking jack in the box named Jacques. I don't imagine Starflight, being as timid as he is, would enjoy the fools that run around the Dream Weaver worlds or Jacques himself. The Dream Weaver worlds is also home to a ton of fairies. Some of which will kiss dragons and give them temporary power ups. Starflight could use some more love! I'm not completely satisfied with Starflight's power up appearance but I can always fiddle with it later.
The Dream Weavers are a mysterious bunch that seem to possess all manner of unnatural abilities, much like the Nightwings. They're world makes little sense to any dragons outside of the Dream Weavers, and is full of enchantments, monsters, fairies, and more. Since the Dream Weaver dragons tend to be decorated with elements of night, this seemed like the best home world for Starflight. Especially since some of the dragons you meet in the Dream Weaves have stars in their wings.
I haven't decided yet why the Dream Weavers would want to intervene in the war like the Nightwings do in Wings of Fire. The Dream Weavers world is so backwards and crazy, there isn't much threat like the volcano in the books. Maybe something to do with conquest...
In this cross over the Nightwings are able to invade dreams, much like when Starflight uses the dreamvisitor. However, to the Dream Weaver dragons this is very much a skill that requires practice to perfect. This would also give the Dream Weavers the image of mind readers to the other dragons.
