Trouble likes to sit next to Danielle when she's burritoing out in her blanket nest on the couch. Yes, she's tucked in there. Yes, we're watching the two of them. He starts out by sniffing her toe to head, and gently licking her cheeks to see if she's really asleep, then he curls up there and watches everyone walk around the house. If we need to sit tho, he does give up his seat easily, so we dont worry about him being too overprotective.

you should see him when we try to take her to appointmets and stuff. He's like nooo.... nOOOOO where are you going with my baby! NO TAKE ME WITH YOU NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
and then we get home and he has to check her car seat and make sure she's in there, and check her face, and lick off any milk we missed, and dance around the seat before he greets anyone else.
We go on trips on satudays and he sits next to her in the car perfectly quiet, unlike if he's in the car alone... he's really a good big brother...

*nod nod* Yep, Brutus used to do all that too. I wonder if it's a min pin thing since as far as we know, he'd never been around babies until then.
He was so funny too b/c he did NOT want my son's real father or his family touching him, but me and my family and friends were "allowed" to as long as he could supervise. XD

I do believe they see something of a family/setting setting when they live you you for an extended period of time. It only really makes sense if you've seen it or was that one child whose dog never left their side.
Then my mind wanders to dogs that would never need a leash and always follow their owner. Another example of pack thinking? Like Mad Max or the dude from I Am Legend?

My dog used to do that when I was a little tyke. I would play in the snow all the time while he would nearly freeze his arse off sitting on the deck. My grandmother supposedly would try to call him in, but he would just look at her for a sec and keep doing what he was doing.
Get a cousin to pick her and watch the dog drag 'em around and rip the kid's pants off doing it. That happens too.
Guess it's a herding instinct or something.

My parents had a dog like this. It didn't weigh more than 4 pounds, but it protected the babies and always checked on them. She always sat with them and was very submissive to people. She was the boss of all the other dogs though. Including a 90 pound shepherd. She was a rescue papillon mix.
