Nukato is born to Zira sometime in the middle of Scar's reign. With the sudden disappearance of their son Kamili, Scar was now in need of a new heir, and decides to try again with Zira believing that this would result in another perfect son. This results in a male cub named Nukato, and while he was pretty scrawny at birth, Scar was hopeful for the boy and expected him to strengthen as he grew. Unfortunately, as Nukato got older, it became apparent that he wasn't exactly king material. He wasn't very strong or smart, and when Scar tried to train him to be king, he proved to be unteachable. With disappointment, Scar renounced his son as future king and decided to try again with Zira. This results in two daughters named Vitani and Shetani, and Scar later ends up choosing his infant cousin Kheri -renamed "Kovu"- to be his heir. Nukato was crushed that he wouldn't be king, but was still well loved by his mother Zira.
But that all soon changed.
Crown Prince Simba, long since assumed to be dead, came back to the Pridelands, and his return also results in the overthrowing and later death of Scar. After he and his family are banished from the Pridelands, Zira begins to ignore and belittle Nukato, now simply referring to him as "Nuka", and begins to focus most of her attention on little Kovu. Nuka obviously doesn't take this well. He was the oldest and therefore he should be his father's heir, and Zira claims that this little termite is the chosen one? He wasn't even related to Scar!
As Kovu grows, Nuka often tries to find ways to get rid of Kovu, whether it be letting him wander off or telling him about some cool places to go explore (and hopefully get himself lost), but these never work and often result in Zira yelling at him to look after him better. And as Kovu grows older and Zira trains him to take back the throne, Nuka tries time and time again to gain his mother's approval, to prove to her that HE should be Scar's heir instead of that dumb cub Kovu.
This eventually leads to him making the ultimate gamble.
After Kovu fails to kill Simba during an ambush orchestrated by Zira, Nuka chases Simba up an unstable log dam. While Simba manages to climb to safety at the top, Nuka ends up slipping and gets crushed by falling logs. And after gaining the affection that he's always desired from his mother, Nuka succumbs to his injuries and dies in Zira's paw.
One of my favorite sympathetic bad guys.
