So, I started drawing this ref in May. It's near the end of April now. Oof. Anyway, I made a full ref for Mateo, Levar's dad! You may remember him from this doodle page of minor characters from the Greyverse (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/27759398/)! He's a sweet guy and the pastor of a liberally-minded, german lutheran church (heavily based on the one I grew up in!) Also he swings both ways, but is a tad inexperienced >w>

Mateo is the pastor of the local lutheran community, with a kind heart and a pure desire to help those around him. He's the father of Levar Adaliz, and loves his son dearly despite his sexuality. However, Mateo has some baggage regarding his son; namely that he feels guilty that he got stuck with his abusive, domineering and honestly quite fundamentalist mother Delora after she divorced him, as well as her new husband who was equally fundamentalist, as a pastor of an american-styled fundamentalist baptist church. While he eventually got him out of there, the damage was still done and Levar had undergone months of intense abuse over his behaviour and sexuality. He still blames himself for this, even though his son doesn't put any blame on him.

Anyway, that aside, he's a member of "La Société de recherche, de confinement et d'évaluation du paranormal", also known as "La Société". La Société is a large, international secret society of people who assess and fight to stop potential supernatural threats, whether they're magic items, evil supernatural creatures and the like, while also protecting peaceful supernatural creatures and communities from the threats of the mundane world. Mateo acts as a so-called "Watcher", who keeps track of any and all suspicious activities in the outside world; which is something that his job as a pastor helps a lot with. He, however, doesn't fight, as he's not really much of a fighter.

Mateo, like most members of the Adaliz-family, is a descendant of Adaliz of Sidon, a holy woman from the Levant who helped people of all kinds of faiths escape from violent crusaders during the crusades. While she was forgotten by history, her legacy lives on in her bloodline, since it was apparently blessed. Usually, many types of holy powers should come with this blessing, but most of them seemed to have skipped Mateo's generation. He is able to generate a holy light and (genuinely) bless people, but that's about it, and thus he's, as previously mentioned, overall not very useful in combat.

- He's also a huge cuddle-bug and loves having his wool stroked.

- His desire to help people sometimes gets him into trouble; especially on La Société-missions with mythological creatures that he barely has any experience with.

- He won't admit it, but he's actually been quite lonely since his first wife divorced him and is secretly hoping to find a new love someday.
