Born to a low-ranking lioness in the Gale Lands, Ipyana had been living in the jungle ever since she was a cub. When she was still young, the pride had been invaded by a pair of rogue males who had managed to drive out their king, Taonga. Fearing they might harm her daughter as these two intruders apparently followed the old ways of lion society, her mother Ayo quickly grabbed her and fled as far away from their former home as her legs could take them.
Ipyana and her mother ended up settling in an oasis in the desert. The lions of the Gale Lands had always been wary of the jungle due to an illness originating from there that almost wiped out an entire pride many generations ago, but Ayo was willing to take the risk. There was plently of food and water here, and she knew that her daughter would be safe from those rogues.
Ayo died in her sleep when Ipyana was in her late teens, and while she was a little saddened by her passing, she wasn't exactly shocked by it, either. Her mother was middle aged when she had her, and she definitely wasn't getting any younger. Ipyana manages to do well living on her own, and manages to find enough food, save for this annoying meerkat and warthog that she could never seem to get her claws on. She had always been a bit of a loner as she didn't really have any friends in her birth pride, but she was okay with that.
But she doesn't remain completely alone.
While out hunting for food one day, Ipyana ends up bumping into a golden-furred male with a red mane. He had apparently been living in the jungle with that meerkat and warthog that she tried to catch in the past, and while she found him to be a little odd, she enjoyed hanging out with him after not having any contact with another lion for so long. They spend the night together, but Ipyana's loner ways soon get the better of her and she leaves him the following morning.
Some time later, Ipyana discovers that she's pregnant with the male's cub. She debates on whether of not she should tell him, but she eventually decides to go look for him and tell him the news. Ipyana ends up finding no trace of the red-maned lion or his two edible companions, as they seemed to have left for some reason. Ipyana ends up giving birth to a single male cub that she names Tanabahi, or "Tanabi" for short, and they are later joined by a wandering pair of lions seeking a new home. The four lions end up forming their own pride in the oasis, and while she had been a loner for most of her life, Ipyana ends up being quite content with her new lifestyle. And while she was puzzled by the dissapearance of her cub's father, she wasn't interested in going out to search for him.
He was probably nobody important, anyway.
Ipyana is based off of the orange lioness who appeared in a TLK comic called "One Meerkat Too Many". I decided to have her be a lioness that Simba met in the jungle before he returned home with Nala, simply because I liked the idea.
