Gregory Perkins has always been a controversial figure in the FAFL. From being accused of playing dirty during his early days at the Gold Coast, To his dismissal from the Gold Coast due to his hostility towards then new coach, Bryan Shadowolf, To his disastrous run at Adelaide which saw him become the league pariah and known as an unlikeable dickhead who no-one got along with. His final lifeline was given by Geelong who were hoping to turn around the Florida Panther who had now become damaged goods.
His first year at the team would prove everyone else right as he would bring down the team with his terrible behavior and his terrible views clashing with the locker room. People though that by the end of the 2 year contract, Perkins would be gone and everyone would rejoice that such an unlikeable player was gone from a league that promoted inclusion and teamwork.
However, Something happened over that off-season. Behind the scenes, It seemed like the Geelong Staff were able to get through to Gregory and actually be able to try and help him back onto the right path. After talking it over with the staff, They were able to figure out that his anger issues were due to issues with his former coaches sacking at the Gold Coast in 2014. Perkins felt that his former coach, Hester Petal was unfairly sacked and this led to animosity and anger towards the club from him which would lead to a falling out between the two which saw Perkins leave at the end of the 2015 season.
During his stint at Adelaide, He'd fall into a bad crowd of people outside the club who filled his head with rubbish and let him become a offensive figure in the league. His acting up would drive people away from the team and would end up himself sacked after 2 years.
However, After finally opening up with the Geelong Staff. He would start to get back on the right path and start to become a better being who renounced his old bigoted ways and was willing to go to anger management and sensitivity training during the offseason. While he would learn to become a better being by learning about diversity and learning that the views that the crowd of people he was friends with in Adelaide were inherently wrong, He would still have his anger issues about how the world treated him.
However, Because Gregory had learned to be a better person. The moral in the Geelong Locker Room went up and the team that suddenly looked in trouble was now one of the top teams in the league. While Gregory was still acting like his angry self on the field, Off the field, He was finally starting to get along with his teammates and would finally find a home at a Football Team for the first time since the end of 2014.
Gregory Perkins is a reformed Panther. He knows his rights from his wrongs now but while that has made him a better person to work with and to actually be friends with. He'll still be known as "Old Sulky Pants" on the field but honestly, Geelong wouldn't have this any other way. Gregory has found his footing again and is finally content with where he is playing again.
