For sure these days everything is a horrible mess. Nontheless, hopefully in the second half of the year our life might find back to a certain degree of normality.
As a freelancing Historian I work for a certain museum in a certain area of central Europe. In a certain dissolved monastery we do special exhibitions for the last five years covering different aspects of monastic life.
In 2021 there will be a jubilee, as the covent was founded in the year 1121, thus we will celebrate the 900th anniversary of the institution and the whole village. Already there are two kinds of liquor in our museum shop. Yes, booze IS a big thing in my country. Best sellers, easily. So, after a traditional local specialty, the dandelion liquer, and an Italian inspired aperitive, many visitors told me that the men desired a more manly, clear drink. A true spirit. So, this is my design for a herbal based monastery spirit, as it is sold in many convents, hopefully distilled by order from one of the local big guys.
The label here is supposed to be an inspiration for a professional designer, something I am not. However, the gothic design and the specific heraldry pays homage to the 900th jubilee as well as the name: Augustinus, named after the important church father and founder of the Augustinian Order, that had once settled in the ancient halls of said monastery. As my director lived and studied in Italy for years, he likes things fancy - that is why I tried to keep a certain Southern elegance, without a too forcefully medieval imaginary. Imagine the gold being printed on the label as an extra metallic colour.
