The Last of Two
“It is strange to think her gone. To be honest… I am uncertain how I feel about it. Do not be mistaken, I am glad she is no more, whatever familiarity we once shared is long over. And yet… It is hard to grasp this reality. Even if she hated me, even if we were enemies, we were still kin. Two beings of the same origin, two parts of a coin, fates entwined since our conception, the Dream and the Nightmare. Even if another takes her place, it will never be the same. She was my counterpart. I do not mourn her passing, for I do not care about her as I once did, but I still feel the loss of something that will never be again. She is gone… I am alone now.”
This is something that has been on my mind for a bit, so I decided it is finally time to delve into Grimm’s feelings about Radiance’s death. I will explain a bit further here because I am unsure how clear the above text is. The way I perceive things, Grimm and Radiance used to be close long ago, but things changed after a very harsh conflict in which Radiance nearly killed Grimm, since then the realms have been split and Grimm has been working toward recovery (the Ritual). They have been enemies since then and Grimm always worried that she might find him before he regains enough strength to defend himself, luckily though he was always able to elude her. He is glad that she is gone now, that’s a huge threat eliminated, and he had no love left for her that could make the loss painful. It is the fact that, even separated, they had always been a duo, the twin gods of dream and nightmare, moon and sun, siblings, counterparts. The closest he had to biological family. So he feels that loss even if there is only animosity left between them. He lost his sister a long time ago, now he lost his counterpart, the only being that has known him and been with him since the beginning. That’s what he means with being alone now, because that’s the type of relation he lost, the loss of kin, the loss of someone who has been there all his existence and that can never be replaced, there will never be another. So in that regard he is alone, but he is not lonely for he still has his Troupe, the people he cares about. So yes, he will be fine, it will just take a while to process things.
I definitely want to delve more into my lore and character interpretations, but no promises for any consistency or order. This is something I thought of months ago already, I just recently had the urge to actually put it down. There are plans, we’ll just have to see when I get to them.
I also started this drawing weeks ago but took a break after getting about half the background done because it ended up being more work than I thought and honestly I am so sick of rocks now lmao. Drawing HK art has so far made me sick of goop, grass and now rocks. If I don’t gotta draw any of those things for a while I will be a happy man. Also originally only the background was meant to be painted but then I realized maybe Grimm would stand out too much so I had to paint him too rip.
And another little fun fact, except for the cracks and one layer of lighting and shading, that whole cliff and statue were done on one layer. Why? I don’t know. He’s on third. And I don’t give a darn.

Interesting lore on this. It's nicely written as well as the picture too. The shading looks good as well the details here, also rocks can be a pain to do sometimes. XD; it takes practice to get em just right how you want them or could even simplify it to still possibly work too, but it's not that bad in what you've done here. ^^ Grimm stands out pretty well too, the lighting really helps. XD
All in all good work. ;]

Thank you! I just have so many lore ideas for Grimm, he's without a doubt one of the most interesting characters of the game. Glad the drawing turned out so good tho, I'm still very new to this kind of painting technique so most of the time I wing it and hope it turns out right. Overall I think it is my best attempt so far and I am very happy with how a lot of it turned out, but man am I glad it is over. X'D
You're welcome. Neat, I had my own ideas as well they are mostly all bits an pieces at a time for deeper thoughts fff, but he is very interesting of a character to think behind. Heh, that's how it can be sometimes, just go for what you can do and hope for the best it looks ok, and in the end it makes you feel good which makes room for more good things to make later on when you think about it sometimes. With such an amount of hard work, would definitely feel good it would be over but worth it. lol
