So I don't really know how most people think... is there a noticeable difference between cute characters and cub characters?
I mean, I understand why people would think not, even though I'd hope other people know it's not exactly the same... then again it's not really a big issue to begin with.
Just something I'm curious about. (:

Generally, cute is associated with youth when it comes to pr0n by the general furry populace. There is a difference, like in the points that you made, but cub art more often than not, tends to depict characters that can be described as cute, and people get into the mind set of "better safe than sorry".
I can understand why people take down anything that can be remotely considered cub art, what with all of the controversy over it. Though usually if someone accuses something of being cub art, they're paranoid that the FBI's gonna roll up their driveway or something like that.

Haha, I guess there is a lot of paranoia involved, especially when it comes to porn and site rules. :B And a lot of times people like cute stuff because it looks young, and makes them look more appealing. It makes sense. Though, I'm glad I'm not that paranoid about it in that case. X3
Honestly, up until a couple of years ago, I didn't think there were so many ways in which "cute" art and concepts could be taken by people. Though, I s'pose it only makes sense when you figure how nearly everything in this world has some degree of sub-category and/or spin-off to it.
Overall, though, my belief is that your work is whatever you want it be. Those viewing it may be able to classify it based on their own individual perceptions of it. However, as the creator, you wield ultimate authority over what it was meant to be.
That, overall, is what makes being an artist, writer, or musician so much fun. You know why you did what you did. However, unless specified otherwise, the work is free to be interpreted by the outside world as each person sees fit to do so. Sometimes such translations yield greater inspiration upon what may have been just a fleeting thought, while others will leave you wondering where you went wrong to be so mis-understood. In the end, though, it all only works to fuel us and make us better at our talents within the arts. :)

Haha, that's true. (: I didn't really think anything of it until I started posting online and saw all these people paying attention to different labels and stuff. And I'd think we're all the best deciders for our own work, since we understand it best. (: But it's still neat to see how other people take different things, especially if we're too naive about our own likes, and what we like in our own work or something! :B
Hi Nishi, just read your Comic/Dairy... He he nice pic... Yup I think that what you saying here is all a question of opinion... yes that true. And also how the character is draw... You can take an adult pic and transform it in a cute pic and automaticly it's turns a cub pic... I have at home a book who explain the whole process of transformation... simply cuteness is base on the basic proportion of a baby + expressions of shyness or coyness... The book is made by Preston Blair, Here the title for the furries who maybe want to buy it -Animation by Preston Blair, Learn how to draw animated cartoons- The process is explain and it's so simple... Like you say it's a point of view or how do we see it...
Oh by the way, just saw the way you draw yourself and I must admit that I've made some ''little'' mistake, sort of... on the pic that I've draw of you You dont look like a hamster or you dont have the look of... Maybe I'll draw and another now that I have a good reference (image top right background green)
Oh and also you loof cute in your ''adult'' form to

Yeah, it's just opinions. (: Though I'm still interested on hearing how different people think of it. (:
And I guess that book is kinda right! People look simpler when they're young, sooo I'd think simple details make a person look younger.
Though, I think you can make anyone look detailed, young or old. So I think it's certain artistic attributes that make something seem young or old?
I dunno. X3 Neat to think on lightly anyway.
And don't worry, Oxnard has lots of spots. Trying to get them all perfect all the time isn't easy. X3 I even forget them sometimes!

Well, when that new AUP goes into effect, I'll be interested in seeing if anybody tries to go after any of my art. I don't think it will happen though, and I hope not, because that would be very sad (though I do have a pic of Opoona who is supposedly a kid, but not human-like enough IMO).
I don't generally think of your characters as cubs, especially since you don't usually put them in cub-like situations (if you had them going to elementary school or getting baby-sat or something like that it'd be different). Since cartoon and furry characters are fictional, you can't really tell just from their appearance whether they're meant to be old or young, and a lot of cute furry characters don't seem like they're meant to have an age at all.
I doubt it occurs to many people to even wonder whether some character or another is a cub. It's just that the people who *are* wondering about it are probably inclined toward assuming that they are cubs, just because those are exactly the sorts who are worrying about whether they're breaking the rules or something. In any case, cute art is awesome! Not that you'd do otherwise, but I'm sure most people here are in favor of your continuing what you draw and not worrying about what anyone else might think! :D

Ah yeah. Cubby situations can say a lot about characters too. (: If you see cute characters at work or something, I guess you're less likely to think of them as kids, even if the style of the character or whatever could work in a more cub-like environment too. :B
And that's another good thought too! I don't think most people go out with a labelling-stamp in their mind, deciding if what they're looking at is cub or not cub or whatever. They just kinda take it in for whatever it is. (:
Luckily, regardless of whatever people think, I'll keep drawing the cute stuff I like. Hopefully you do too!

With a subject like that, where content can sometimes be classified completely perceptively, the only debate really is a moral one.
On the one hand the argument against, i've seen, usually states that even though it CAN be innocent it won't always be. And the danger posed by the cases where it is used in a non-innocent manner outweighs the benefits.
A loose analogy I suppose would be something like running with scissors haha. Even though you're pretty much staggering probably safe doing it, all it takes is that one slip to "get you" and that small risk is not worth it. And thus people tell you not to run with scissors.
On the OTHER hand, purely because it's a subject matter both fictional and usually entirely up to enterpretation, you can't stop something purely based on opinion using opinion as the backbone to your argument. It would be like someone ordering you to cease eating a certain food because they don't like the taste of it :B
My final point is that i'm not bothered either way in the matter, cub/young/cute/whatever stuff isn't really my thing and I just felt like writing something also made you look <3

I never thought your art was cub. It'd be like thinking everything cute with a big head was a cub, which is totally stupid. Now some art like karavan's is less cute and much less big-heady and it's (mainly) cub. Proportions don't mean a heck of a lot for cub vs. not. Seriously.
Haha, well no one else seems to say my art seemed cub, so maybe I'm the only one that was surprised to hear someone say it didn't look that way to them. X3
His definitely has more of a cutesy cub atmosphere. (: Even though his are bigger, it's definitely easier to tell with some people!

Everyone feels the need to categorize everything, don't they? D: The cute is a format of art I happen to enjoy, whereas "cub" is generally something that is fappable. UNLESS SOMEONE HAS SOME SORT OF CUTENESS FETISH. :x Dear GOD... I think, in order to differentiate it from cub, every character of yours should have an intense background, like, "YEAH I GOT THIS SCAR IN THE WAR." "But you're a hamster." "YOU EVER HEARD OF SHRAPNEL, BOY?" Or try drawing HYPER REALISTIC.
I'm the same way. Sometimes I like cub art because the characters are cute. Since cartoons are often oddly proportioned it's easy to dismiss the way the character is drawn as to style as opposed to age. But I mean if it's obvious they're a kid, I don't really care for it that much. o3o
Furry art is undeniably fantasy. What I frequently see is people unable to disconnect the real from fiction, then we end up with heated debates that mix a very serious real-world issue with cutesy cartoon art, smut or not.
Cute comic and an interesting and solid point, my thrusting friend!

Haha, yeah! I remember talking a bit with a friend for feeling bad about liking weird things, but he reassured me that we're all entitled to fantasy, so we can all enjoy what we want in at least one place. :B I really don't think people need to feel bad about what they like in fantasy... that's just part of who you are. X3
And I love your art as it is too. :3

You commented right after I replied to something else. 8D
And VCL is an old furry site. They have to approve of each new members, and here's the site: http://us.vclart.net/vcl/
The main admin keeps things under control and had regulations for art (like what you could and couldn't do with backgrounds, copyright, and so on)... it was a really personal site, but it was scary getting emails from the main guy whenever I did something wrong. X3

OMG! WHATEVER YOU'RE SAYING I DISAGREE! *epic explosive debate that destroys half the world* D8
A good number of times, people aren't satisfied unless they're winning at something, even if that something is a stupid argument about personal opinions/views, etc. The more significant the topic, the more extreme the controversy. This goes with just about any topic, not just cubs. >>
