The souls of the unfit, stolen back to the Overworld by Anubis, are used for energy production - a power unrivaled by the likes of electricity or petrol.
Souls that are rejected passage to the afterlife, but are too powerful to be easily drained for simple energy production find a more sinister purpose - soldiers of bone and metal. Powerful units of war, constructed by Thoth, and built in Anubis' image, inhabited and powered by a single soul. Robbed of their flesh, their will, their bodies; only the spirit remains, mixed amongst long-faded, distant memories of what might have been a past life.
