Honestly, I don't think the Oreo personality is that rough. Even when Goobrain left Oreo took the time to help the pup out. I would even say that his split brain trying to decide on fixing his friendship with Goobrain or saving the humans are both good ideas. From what I can tell from his reference sheet, I believe Oreo just doesn't want to deal with drama. He rather be happy with some peace and quiet. But because Oreo still refers Goobrain as his friend the dude still has a heart.
Of course
I based that particular comment off of a previous page of Oreo declaring his own independence from the human he once was, yet he continues to be troubled by his seemingly unshakable will to do what is right. To do what is "human", if you will.
I personally don't see it as an attempt to avoid or finish up any drama, but rather a personal conflict of interests set on by the guilt of losing his friend to his own actions, which is why he's bringing along Texan so he won't have to be alone.
He also only seemed to start caring about Goobrain's goals after he lost him, though I'm unsure if this can be interpreted as Oreo trying to do the right thing, or attempting to win back Goobrain's friendship, or guilt, or obligation, or even some primal urge inside him demanding he try due to the amount of comic we have at our disposal so far.
Either way, I'm looking forward to more lol

The ability to manipulate your body mass at will, despite what some other users in this comment thread think, sounds like a cool idea to me! I mean, think about it: Oreo can gorge on... uh, whatever it is latex monsters eat to his heart's content, gain as much weight as he wants, experience all the pleasure that comes with it... then voluntarily attenuate his body to a more lithe size when the situation calls for it, and gain all the weight back later!
