Mufasa has always had a strange talent at "posing". He seems to know that he is, of course, the most handsome of all the beasts on the planet, and therefore, why shouldn't the mere mortal humans wish to take silly pictures of him?
Whenever the tour groups would progress towards his cage, he'd be watching closely. But whenever the cameras came out, it was a stark change. His eyes would shift over just a little to look of into space, and his chin would raise up just slightly for that aire of pride and nobility.
I think this picture goes a long ways at capturing Moof at his finest pose. He is quite the majestic beast!
This picture was taken 10-Jun-03. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and the EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens. The original was taken at full frame of 3072x2048x24b, ISO eqv 400, 1/250 shutter, f/5.6. This image was shrunken down for space conservation.

I've always been terribly biased towards cougars. As they say: the first love... I have a very deep affinity for tigers as well, and I've studied more about then than any other species - mostly because of the availability of material - but lions, while majestic in thie own right, have never really sparked the proverbial awe with me. It might actually be the whole psychology with them: they have a cooperative pride, while the tigers and cougars and leopards (my favorites) are all solitary creatures.
Of course, it's probably about trying to describe why I like the color blue more than, say...chartreuse. I just do! Same for the cats. :)

Very true. It certainly makes lions unique in the cat-family. From what we know, only the Smiledons before them were that way, unless you consider the cheetah bachelor prides; they're also cooprerative in hunting and play.
Lions are very fascinating for amany, many reasons. This is for sure. A pride is a place of belonging, and of family. Probably, humanity could learn a whole lot from lions. :)
