"Whoa! Is that guy okay?"
"Hm? Whaddya mean?"
"He's... look at him! He's inflated!"
"Oh! That. Hahaha, yeah, he is. They brought the P-Balloon back. He's fine! See the big P on him? That means he's powered-up!"
"Oh... so he's not always like that, then."
"Well he could be from now on."
"Huh? But P-Balloons wear off."
"Not anymore, they don't! Not if he doesn't take damage. And, well, nobody wants that..."
They added the P-Balloon to Super Mario Maker 2! Oh, what am I saying, if you follow my art you know that already. I actually have adored Mario Maker since the first game came out and I'm sure not complaining about the new additions. From the trailer I was a bit worried, seieng the clothing change, that they meant to retroactively imply that it was a balloon suit, but with Toad's bare belly we can see it does inflate you when you touch it. I'm a fan of having to worry about permanence, so its new functionality as an independent powerup appeals to me. I realize there's sort of some unspoken "rules" to P-Balloons that us inflation fans just kind of accept even though they're not how they worked in the game--more P-Balloons make you inflate bigger and bigger, you're helpless to float up and up and up... I hope I keep seeing the P appear on the inflatee's body while something on them turns yellow, too. It's like the perfect icing on the cake. As if it wasn't already obvious, now you've got a big label on you, too.
