They're really cute. I have a suggestion. How about the males can be smaller than the females? That's a trait that is quite the minority in mammals, but it's definitely doable in this species.

Ya i have heard of that one and do like the suggestions that could help it tie into something that might actually exist in the world.
A species feels more real or i guess realistic when it has a story or traits that tie it to the real world.

It turns out that there are some similar species to this; small even-toed ungulates such as chevrotains and duikers have females larger than males.

I think you have Ungulates wrong as these have paws like cats or small dogs more then hooved feet.

But I get what you are saying.
And there are quite a few species that have larger females then males.
I Think males being a bit more vibrant in colors or have something distinctive like a mane (like lions) or maybe some larger fur tuffs or something.
