I hear France has some really nice sightseeing locations during the day, but camping is more about the evening and just enjoying the crackling of a nice warm fire you started yourself, either with a lighter or two sticks and some string like they did some 400 odd years ago.
I personally like to camp in the forest, next to a lake, criquets chirping or the nearby frogs croaking lullabying me into the night. And that's not to speak about the peaceful silence of the next morning.
