Did Nick just.... swindel his mother?
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the two of them actually like each other, but the way he was talking and even acting in the previous page feels slightly more devious and two faced to be anything other than… how one would say, "putting on a show".
Whether he did or not, glad she's better now.

The story has gone for the "feels" but has ended awkwardly.
Reading the flow of Nick's narrative from p4 into p5 we have "You know why? Because she is a fox and foxes mate for life. And another bad thing about that is... sometimes, we fall in love with someone that, probably will never be able to be with us."
What does the "bad thing" mean?
1) Nick has confessed his love to Judy and hopes that she returns it because since "foxes mate for life" he's given away his heart and if she doesn't return the affection then Nick is condemned to a life of loneliness because he's already found his mate.
2) Nick is acknowledging that he has love for Judy but it will probably never amount to anything because "foxes mate for life" and Judy's not a fox. This might have more weight because it fits with Mrs. Wilde's "Is [sic] OK to wish for more" which seems to imply she is hoping that biological barrier can be overcome.
Both interpretations kinda leave it as a bummer ending. Anyone have another?
