One my friends recently retired after 20 years in the Air Force and this was my present to him. I wouldn't have dreamed of making him a pony but back when I was making all the ponies for the art show he noticed me rehairing one and asked all about it. He was very entertained by the whole process and jokingly said I should make him a pony one day, so clearly I had to. The pony wears pretty much the same uniform he did with a few minor alterations to accommodate differences in human and MLP anatomy. I thanked him for never switching over to the new ABUs - the digitized camo would have killed me to paint. Sculpting as accurate a uniform as possible was great fun - I even made sure the pants were bloused! And he lacks a hat since he'll live indoors and you can't wear cover inside of buildings. He wears TSgt chevrons since that was his receiver's final rank, and keeps his tail and mane buzzed short.
Big thanks to everyone who commented on my journal worrying about the painting of this guy.
Mane, tail and clothes are all handmade from super sculpy. Every part of the pony that isn't white is hand painted with acrylics and sealed.
My Little Pony belongs to Hasbro.
Uniform design and insignia belong to the USAF.
Artwork belongs to S.A. Lancaster aka the-lancastrian.

I thought the BDU's were out and are using the new ACU Style (Which the U.S. Army first came up with then copyed by the USMC).
And BDU's are now like only used by the Civil Air Patrol...
But then again... the USAF uses both U.S. Army ACU's and U.S. Navy ACU's...
(Really I though the USAF Used the Navy ACU's more than anything due to well... them not needing it since there in the air most of the time x3)

You're correct, but as it says in the description the person I made this pony for never switched over so his pony is wearing BDUs like he did. BDUs are still authorized for wear until Oct 2011 so the older airmen tend to still have them.
They also switched to the desert pallet as standard for ABUs instead of the forest of the BDUs for obvious reasons.
(How do you explain all of the non-flying loggies in them then? XD But I'm pretty sure the ABUs are an alteration of the Army ACUs more than the Navy's.)

Might be of interest for you to know that Marpat (Marine Pattern) camouflage uniforms went into use in 2002 following development earlier based on Canpat (Canadian Pattern).

ACUs used by the Army went into use in 2005 using a modified 3 color version of the Marpat camouflage pattern.

ABUs (Airman Battle Uniforms) use a different style featuring a tiger striped pattern rather than a digital random pattern such as used by Marpat and ACUs. These went into proper use in 2007.

The Navy has their own uniform standards that are different from any of the other 3 services. Their uniform was chosen for durability for day to day use rather than for hiding them as they are usually at sea, From my experience Naval Corpsmen use Marpat when in the field.

Just some interesting information.

It's as close to his "Air Force Hair" as I could manage, hence the fade. I accidentally discovered that carving in texture, squishing it a bit and then re-carving makes it look much more like hair and much less like a block of clay with lines scraped in it.
And thanks!
And thanks!
