Miss Muffet Training For The Prestige - By Fjorge
FJorge has created a really interesting moment for my character.I must admit i originally protested when i got this image becaaaaause... well... i'm an idiot.
I had asked for something completely different, which i hope FJorge will still draw, time and other commissions permitting.
But... the more i thought about this... the more this commission "grew" on me.
Sooo the story i'm going for with this picture is... welll... basically "Training For The Prestige".
I'm referencing both the movie, and the third act.
A quote that stuck with me from that movie: "The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you wont find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled."
Setup, Performance, Prestige. It sounds simple. It's incredibly hard to pull off.
Here is Yushkep training herself to get to the point where people will not be looking for her to "not be human".
Let's face it... humans want to be fooled. If it looks human but has weird stuff taped on... It's human and the weird stuff is the costume.
Yushkep went through hell to make this work (few people actually asked... but no, spiders do not bend that way), but she still needs to look as convincing as possible.
Because... let's face it the best tricks are those where nobody even understands they are being tricked, and everybody enjoys it, because the trick is not just to get people to get in on the premise (the setup) or to believe that something is happening (the performance). The trick is to make people enjoy it and be happy about it.
That's the prestige. And she really hopes she can pull it off.

I really looked into this character alot now, thanks to the gif EpsilonShadow created for you. It catched my interest...
Now I've seen a few more works, and I dare to say I finally got the vibe a bit and how this character, the buildup and idea behind this arachnoid sharade works. Intriguing concept and fascinating way how Miss Muffet 'hides' in plain view.
I can see why you needed time to get on good terms with the picture and I must say I like it alot. Despite the fact that the actual eyes are pretty covered and she can't see what she is actually doing.
The horror, I can imagine, must be intense if one finds out. Plus the constant fear since she doesn't seem to WANT to be terrifying.

I still have to start writing her story, but yes, it will basically be a modern re-interpretation of the Jorogumo story mixed with the Yushkep myth... mostly the last one is used as a sort of "home alone" nod, since the character is actually just using Yushkep as a cosplay, being one of the few actually "good" myth about spiders.
She might indeed end up being a midwife as a job, like the cosplay suggests.
Her real name will not be revealed in the story... if she even has one. It might be clear from her character sheet that she is trying to insert herself into human society but she does get discovered.
Basically the fact that she gets discovered... is how she ends up actually integrating into humanity by becoming a bit of a sensation... turns out that lying (even for good reasons) never gets the right results.
But in general the story is that of a spider that used her molting to twist herself into an unnatural shape, utterly making 4 of her legs unusable for a normal spider stance... and tried to train herself into acting like a human... because she was scared of humans and also because she ... well ... she was utterly alone.
But this is essentially as far as i have written down for now, i am still in the research phase.
