Dragons are natural shapeshifters, and their abilities can be developed and refined. Here is Arcten's hand, showing off a variety of his claw shapes.

Thumb: Arcten's normal claw style. It is fairly straight and comes to a very sharp point. It comes straight out of the finger tip, a continuation of the finger bone, rather than from the finger nail location.

Pointer Finer: This is an example of a claw coming from the finger nail location. This is a compromise between the human style finger nail, and his more normal finger tip straight claw that is depicted on his thumb.

Middle Finger: A human style fingernail. When closing his fist, or grabbing an object, Arcten's claws retract (it is an instinctual, automatic act of shapeshifting) to neatly trimmed fingernails. This is to avoid injuring his palms or what he may be grabbing. Arcten may keep his claws in this form when he will be handling objects for a good stretch of time, or when having close or intimate contact with another.

Ring Finger: This is similar to the claw shown on Arcten's thumb, it comes from the tip of the finger instead of the finger nail, but it is bladed on the bottom. This is something meant for combat, though it is also handy for opening packages. Arcten can cause the claw to extend further outward, change the orientation of the blading (on the sides for something like a karate chop, instead of the bottoms for a more conventional swipe), or cause it to be bladed on the top and the bottom. He can control whether this is serrated or smooth.

Pinky: A hooked claw, which also comes out of the finger tip instead of the finger nail. This used to dig in and get purchase on something, or in some cases, someone. The shaping abilities described under the ring finger's claw also can apply here.

Other fun facts:
-Arcten can make his claws conductive, to allow them to operate a touch screen.
-Arcten can apply an force to his claws to cause the pressure they apply to be spread out through a larger area. The effect of this is to make his claws act far blunter than they are. This is a safety measure, which is also applied to his various horns and spines. Otherwise he can be a major hazard in crowds, where people bump into him inadvertently. When applied to teeth, they can make sharp teeth act more like molars.
