I spooked our vixen so she crossed the road to the safety of the underbrush.
Here you can see the classic white tail tip along with some red fur of a red fox

Good heavy brush on her tail -- usually a sign of general good health.
I have a male fox (or tod) at work. He has crossed the access road ahead of me a few times, and I saw him down by the trailers once or twice. Mostly a darker brown color; no red or white on him anywhere. He always outruns my camera; I have a number of pics of dirt road.
Two coyotes live in the hills around the site. One is very small and light-colored. She comes out to complain at night when I toss wash water or banana peels in the scrub grass area. The other is larger and dark-colored; I think he's a coy-dog. His voice is not the right sound for a coyote, either.

A lot of times that's all I get of them too. Depending where on the island some of the foxes are friendly. At a friend's he had one that came into the shop to say hello and get a treat or two.
Other places they will come within a few feet of you. Out on the West side I had kits within inches while I sat on the ground... kits are not overly smart at times...
