There's a bit in an episode of Haruhi where they're at the pool, and Haruhi accidentally kicks a ball in Mikuru's face. So it's based on that. Mikuru's such a soft character, I love the way drawing her poses and expressions translates so beautifully onto a male character. Really uncharted territory.
