These monsters commonly live wherever there are Energy Crystals in the Shattered Islands solar system.
These Worms are commonly seen engaging in higher levels of communication among themselves and their surroundings, usually by emulating the frequencies they can hear inside of active Energy Crystals.
In fact, they are infamous for their singing abilities. Hearing them alone is not enough to affect a person, but direct sound waves can easily mess them up and give them some form of debuff.
This is ranging from suddenly falling asleep, being hypnotized into doing the Worm's bidding for them with little to no resistance, "muting" their ability to cast spells, distracting their mind with an "Ear Worm" song so catchy that it's impossible to focus on any other tasks, or at worst, cause some sort of mental damage (Usually causing the person to fall to the ground and cringe in pain or have a seizure).
If their victim does not survive their attacks (sleeping not counted), they're food afterwards.
Because they're so powerful even when they're young, the Bat Federates have to exercise special care in handling or traversing their habitat. A sand worm is only alerted if they're attacked or they feel threatened by a sudden approach, at which point they either panic noisily or sing at the invader. They squirm away when they see Energy Crystals being mined, possibly out of fear they may get zapped.
When a Worm reaches adulthood, they begin feeding on crystals and laying eggs. Eggs tend to be either buried in sand or laid on previously stored food to help the young mature quickly and begin the lifecycle again. Most worms are protective of the eggs, and tend to gang up on single targets using their screaming abilities to devastating effect.
Due to them basically being walking mindscrew canons, and the difficulty of capturing an egg, keeping one as a pet is both extremely hard and illegal.
