Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus), native to forested regions of the USA and Canada, especially common in pine-oak forests in the South. The oblong nest cavity entrance is a typical of this species' excavation habits.
I'd like to see a Pileated Woodpecker fursuit one of these days. Heck, there's even a well-known cartoon character of this species, Woody Woodpecker, he of the slightly-aggravating chortle. In the wild, these guys have a habit of scaring the living bejeezus out of people, sounding off with a loud KAK-KAK-KAKKAK-KAK-KAK, earning them the nickname of "Lord God woodpecker", as in "Lord God, that thing scared the **** outta me!"
