Seaplane Dance ("S.55") - May Day 1931 - Spontoon Island
Members of the Hula-Hula Union ("One Big Hula!") dance in a village hula-circle during the Spontoon Island May Day in 1931. Public dances are part of the community celebrations, along with other performances, and also public picnics, parades, & parties. These two dancers are doing the "S.55", a hula inspired by one of the seaplanes of an international aviation service that refuels at the Spontoon Lagoon during long-distance Trans-Pacific flights. This is a dance from the Rain Coast, an allied distant nation in North America, as can be seen by their dance costumes, with the distinctive red & black patterns on the skirts and loose blouses.

Some of the members of the HulaHula Union local are indeed hoofers, professionals working at the Casino and the Polynesian music halls. The "Thundering Herd" is a group of ungulates that often are booked at the Casino, when they aren't working on an international contract.
Jazzy-music hula-hulas are popular on the Spontoon Islands (and on the Rain Coast). Adapting hulahula style dances to pop culture music is also a novelty that has travelled to some major cities internationally.
In the Spontoon Archipelago, touring jazz musicans are considered a high-prestige romantic catch; much appreciated when brought back to the extended-family longhouse. Especially if they bring their instruments.
The two young females here may be visiting from Rain Island (or off-duty from the Naval Syndicate base on Moon Island?), or they may be locals who like the Rain Coast style of jazzy dance music and are doing their own tribute.

Well, that can be a bit of dark humor. However, if just a wing-tip catches the water, the resulting 'ground-loop' can make a showy dance-move. I've seen some seaplane-landing movies on YouTube.
Airplane survival aside, with that style of loose dance clothes, an actual dancing gymnastic cartwheel would attract a lot of attention. A flashy finish to a dance routine.
