Okay, I've looked deeper:

The ribbon eel is one specific species, the Rhinomuraena quaesita.

A 'moray eel' is the name for 202 different eel species, within the sub-families of 'Muraeninae' and 'Uropterygiinae'

And, yes, you are correct, the ribbon eel is also known as the leaf-nosed moray eel, it's in the sub-family of Muraeninae.

I knew 'moray' meant a few different species with varying colourations, but I didn't know how much the term comprised. I was imagining all morays were shorter, thicker, with darker colours than the ribbon, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_moray
