House Design/Job Corps Architectural Project
So I've had the design of my dream house for a while now in my head, but as I go thru the course I'm slowly but surely building it in Blender. I don't have any actual CAD software so I'm improvising here, and I like what I have so far.
About the Design
The main section of the house, and that which will be built first is the Octagon portion. The bottom floor rests on a crawlspace foundation, with a radial wall that links to a pier foundation in the very center making it look like a pokeball viewed directly from the front. Ontop of the pier foundation rests a massive 20 foot long, 16 inch wide Douglas Fir log which is anchored to the pier using brackets and a 4 foot long pole in the center of the log from the pier foundation. Each corner of the house has a shorter 16 foot 12 inch wide log. Between the logs, while not load bearing, for added support and strength against gusts of wind, the walls have steel studs, however this is only the preferred method, I will settle for Wooden studs if necessary.
The first floor would function as the family room/lounge, and have a door going outside, facing south. To the north and northwest walls are doors going to the future addition. Amenities here would include a wood stove for heat, couches and chairs, a granite countertop Bar, and a spiral staircase to the 2nd story. The 2nd story is just a massive bedroom. This part of the house would be completed first so that we have a place to live while building the rest of the house.
The addition would have a laundry/bathroom combo on the east side, with a door leading to an outdoor porch near where it joins the central structure of the Octagon. The west side would be the kitchen and dining room which would feature two doors, one facing straight north leading to an outdoor eating area, and one to the west leading to a balcony.
The roof style of the octagon would be triangular panels that overhang the porches providing some cover from the elements. The roof style of the addition would be a simple Gable roof.
