An otherworldly roar tears through reality, sending birds flying from their trees as the nearby mountain erupts in a fiery explosion, revealing the curled form of a dragon so immense that it could barely fit within the peak’s confines. The dust settles to reveal dark ruby scales, wings that could blot out the sun, and a great draconic face devoid of all but malice and hatred for all things save himself. The great dragon’s footsteps thunder as he uncurls and stretches, taking his first deep breath of fresh air in millenia, savoring it a bit, and then releasing it in a fiery blast onto the forest nearby, dousing thousands of age-old trees in thick flame. A quick glance and a snort at the forest, and the flames magically fan themselves out for hundreds of miles, engulfing the largest, oldest, and most sacred woods on the planet in scarlet flame.
His eyes shift over to your epic party, who had been assembled to stop his coming, and suddenly your trusted life-long friend, a level-25 barbarian, drops to your feet – stone dead. A quick shift of the eye, and suddenly the cool-headed ancient wizard you’ve traveled with for so long lets out a primal shout and begins a suicidal sprint towards the dragon, waving his powerful magic staff like a mere club. The dragon’s hideous laughter tears through the air as it raises it’s claws, summoning clouds from miles around as flaming hail starts to fall, reducing all to ash.
