Alex was a colaboration created by Albert and James to create a robot Mienshao for a project as to demonstrate how Robomon can work. Originally intended to have little emotion or personality, during maintenance, the robot ended up malfunctioning and began to show it's own identity.
Alex was programmed with some of Albert's DNA and has some of his memories, evidentaly making him a duplicate of Albert. While Albert isn't much of a fighter, Alex is more combatant, as well as a bit jerkier and more harsh, though not too much. Albert liked to consider this robot a second version of him called "Albert X" or "Al X" upon creation, but it sounded similar to "Alex" so Albert's friends and family started calling him that. Albert's mother, Helena, sometimes calls him "Alexander" in a more formal sense, and a history and world cultures teacher at Albert's high school referred to him as "Kamaitachi", after the Japanese mythical creature, as one of Alex's abilities is to turn his arms into combat scythes.
Alex can sometimes be hard to get along with when he encounters a new person, but he can be really nice once you've earned his trust, as Alex can be rather protective of others even if he can be hard to get along with. Alex and Albert usually get along, but sometimes they can argue about simple and trivial things and tend to mock each other, which is interesting given Albert's normally peaceful nature. Alex gets along very well with Lyra, who is often the nicest to him and sometimes plays games with him, while Nate sees him as being a fellow robot companion. Landon often sees him as being his more "unusual" brother and just another robot that Al made. Jacen once described Alex as being "a hyperactive purple weasel android" due to sometimes being high-maintenance to work with.
Some additional details about Alex:
- He can express several different emotions, his mouth is expressionless most of the time, so he mainly expresses with his eyes, the movement of his whiskers, and body language.
- He can project holographic arm whips from the digital constructors on his arms which can be used as weapons. He can also store objects as data and create tools and weapons from these constructs, his personal favorite being scythes.
- When he speaks, his mouth lights up and flashes green.
- His whiskers are highly flexible and can be used as radio antenna
- The neck and waist are made of a flexible metal fabric that can allow his body to maneuver quickly and in a way similar to a normal Mienshao, with his streamlined design, he can move very quickly.
