No one knew exactly how Emyris had acquired her bracelets. Rumors were abound, but it was a secret only she knew and would never share. Some believed that she must have struck a deal with a legendary Pokémon that both blessed and cursed her with supernatural power. Another prevalent rumor was that she had crafted them herself using unholy witchcraft to make herself stronger. Others who preferred a simpler explanation believe that she merely found them in some cave or long lost ruins. Fortunate for her, but ill-fated for the rest of us.
Only one thing about her artifacts was certain: The moment she had begun wearing them, her power and her ambitions grew to epic proportions, with a malice to match. All who stood in her way were petrified in ice, left as testaments to her power and threats against anyone that would oppose her. She had amassed a sizable bounty shortly thereafter, but team after team of Pokémon with type advantage over her powers of ice still were not enough. Even teams of Fire Pokémon would be found frozen as statues, and these victories only bolstered Emyris' confidence and accelerated her plans.
Legend has it that around this time, she had summited the coldest mountain in the region to declare her dominion over all underneath her, and established the mountain as the seat of her new kingdom. That winter, an unnatural blizzard spread from the mountain, slowly transforming the surrounding countryside into her ideal domain. Emyris sent allies she had amassed into the nearby towns, forcing them to swear fealty to her under the threat of starvation from unyielding cold. Neighboring lands took notice, but did not stop Emyris from her takeover, either because they were afraid or had tried and failed to do so.
This was the beginning of an age of despair for a vast population of Pokémon, but none more so than those trapped within her borders. Never allowed to leave, never able to seek out and live their dreams, and no hope for an end to this abominable winter.
