took the time to write up a little story blurb to go with this image, be sure to check it out!
Full background commission for
featuring their character Harumi and my own mermaid character Jade. Both are out hunting for pretty seashells to add to their collection and have happened upon a rather large, beautiful specimen. So caught up in obtaining it, they barely noticed each other as they approached and are surprised when suddenly they look up and there's another mermaid eyeing their prize! What do you think would happen next?
I thought this would be a cute scenario to introduce these girls to each other. ^_^' I also went with a triptych style frame for this one, something I haven't used in a while except on a few personal pieces. I thought it would be fun to make the frame appear as part of the actual scene, like underwater ruins, so I threw some barnacles and mussels in a few spots and wrapped the characters around it as though they're swimming through the posts.

I bet Harumi would probably let her have it, unless Jade offered first. :) After all, there are plenty of shells in the sea. :)
I love the idea you came up with, all I had in my head was something like tending a garden, but this is cute and definitely might give me an idea for a short project sometime, maybe a couple of pages long. I'll have to write it down so I don't forget.

It kinda just came to me as I was sketching. ^_^
Don’t feel obligated to add to your workload to write for this, unless you absolutely want to! It’s one of those ideas that *can* be elaborated on, but can just as well be left up to the imagination or brought up in a future story. :3

These days especially I can use whatever motivation I can get to keep me writing, so if it gives me an idea then it's a good thing. I keep a list of short story ideas and what I'm terming short treks (inspired by star trek's short film series) for things I can work on after work which is usually reserved for 'warm up' or shorter projects. I don't anticipate it'll be much longer than a few pages, as I'm mostly just looking for a little backstory behind the picture, but still, it's all good.
