Since I now have a character that's a member of the species, I might as well jot down the specifics about their species. I present to you the Auroran Wyvern, the pirates, raiders and smugglers of Aurelia that make their homes in the arctic circle.


The Northern Auroran Wyverns are a bit of an eclectic society. Truly, even the word 'Society' doesn't quite capture what they really are. In the modern era of Aurelia, they technically exist as a nation with defined borders and a government system. In reality, they're a bit of a rabble of troublemakers ruled by a sort of mafia. Their specialty? Psychedelics and enchanted munitions.

Northern Auroran Wyverns biologically are similar to many other of the dragon species of Aurelia. They possess the means to use magic thru their element of ice by way of channeling magic thru their horns. They are furred, warm blooded and have a muscle skeletal system more akin to mammals than reptiles, all the way down to the ratio of fast-twitch to slow-twitch muscles. The wyverns however completely lack mammary glands and lay eggs with hard shells which must be incubated at specific temperatures. Traditionally, wyvern's do not have very strong parenting instincts, like most reptiles they will watch over the egg, but the young are often left to fend for themselves with most parents viewing child-rearing as too much of a hassle, the exception comes from “noble blood” where mothers tend to pick one or two offspring from a clutch and groom them to be heirs to the mob government.
The wyverns have a reputation as troublemakers, junkies at best, all the way to tall tales of assassins and spies. They don't integrate well with the other nations and are very much the victims of racism. Their cultural identity was a necessity in ancient times as north of the arctic circle they simply could not grow their own food nor was prey plentiful enough to be independent. With the advancements of modern medicine and nutritional standards and economy, the northern nation is doing better than before, but many of its denizens still resort to trickery and theft in order to survive.

Auroran Wyverns typically mate season to season, with pairs rarely having lasting relationships. In part this is due to their more reptilian tendencies compared to the Aurish or Stormcallers, but also because most of them are untrusting, solitary individuals with “friends” being little more than people who tolerate their shenanigans. They are somewhat creatures of impulse, prone to brash actions rather than thought out diplomatic responses, harsh words, harsher attitudes, and long lasting grudges. The few who aspire to be more than their brothers and sisters are often just not willing to die or live in a frigid slum for the rest of their lives, rather than a genuine wish to aspire to greatness.
Auroran wyverns have little interest in colonizing space, and those that venture there do so because its where the good paying work is.
