I was asked to make more art for the beach house.
Somehow "I'll just make a simple test sketch before trying out these watercolors" became an entire undersea scenelet. Then I realized I hadn't used watercolors since I was about SEVEN, and put the inked piece aside so that I could "freehand some fishies" to test the watercolors and how they meshed with the paper I was using.
Naturally, this ALSO became a fully-rendered picture. So I guess I won't be finishing the *original* project from tonight, but at least I still have a new piece of beach art for tomorrow. (I'll just bring the paints w/me and try to finish the other one over the weekend...)
...Anyways. The odd green things are part of the sea anemone they live in; I was working off a reference photo and these are mostly the tops of the anemone's feelers, with the exception of the one side view feeler overlapping the bigger fish.
Vintage 1980s Crayola 8-Color Watercolors on heavy sketch paper. (The paper didn't curl up except for a half inch on two corners. I was impressed.)
...My brother's scanner and I do not get along, in case anyone is wondering.

It was actually kinda neat to just freehand the whole thing, without a sketch or anything, just starting w/paint on blank paper. I'm not quite sure how I got that to WORK, but it was still great fun.
The true challenge will be seeing if I can paint the inked piece I originally intended to color. It's full of custom-blended colors; not sure I'm ready for it yet. Which might just mean more "simple" watercolors from me as I figure out what I'm doing.
