that is adorable, and you manage to convey the ethereal quality of butterfly wings with a solid medium, which is pretty hard. As far as photography, if you have a camera with manual settings I can give you a few tips, but if it's a point and shoot my only suggestion is crank up the resolution all the way and back up a little, it looks like it's still focusing more on the grain of the wood then the figure, bah auto-focus.

I played around with a few ideas for the wings. I would have preferred resin...even fused glass...but I don't have the funds for starting work with fused glass and didn't have any resin. Tried a combination of varnish and plastic but varnish doesn't like heat...so...back to clay.

I think the ethereal quality is as good as it is because of the difference in hues...dark body versus light wings...conveying a good sense of "airyness".
