The third installment of an idea floating in my head involving Marshall from the show Paw Patrol and my character Jacob. This was drawn by perhaps one of the nicest artists i've recently come to know
Rai-Kun. Please by all means, give him a watch and a look! He is both very nice and simply a pleasure to work with! Thank you so much for helping me bring this idea to life Rai! You really are truly amazing! I can't thank you enough! :)
Last time on Paw Patrol Z: (from the actual episode) The pups were playing a game of baseball around the lookout. At some point, Marshall accidentally lets the ball get away from him, so he volunteers to go and get it. It happens to fall down a gopher hole. Marshall attempts to retrieve the ball, but is unable to do so because he is too big to fit in the hole. Suddenly becoming tired, Marshall tells everyone that he's going to take a nap. Before he falls asleep, he wishes he knew what it was like to be very small.
He then has a dream in which this occurs. In a way, it really makes me think of something similar to Honey I Shrunk the Kids. At the end of his dream before he wakes up, he is returned to normal size. (End of actual episode)
The following is an extension i've thought about of Marshall still having this dream. He instead goes past normal size and ends up giant sized by accident. Knowing that Jacob is able to help him with this dilemma, he goes off in search of him. Marshall was able to find Jacob asleep on the beach. After several minutes of trying to wake him up, he notices that Jacob is trapped in a nightmare. Will Jacob be able to wake up? Will Marshall stay giant sized forever? Tune in and find out on the next Paw Patrol Z! ;)
Jacob found himself wandering in complete darkness as he dreamed. He could see nothing. He felt nothing. There simply was ... nothing. "What is this?" he thought to himself. Was he truly alone? Even with things like his thoughts? Before he could even think of anything at all, a light had suddenly appeared before him. The light was tiny and small and hovered in front of Jacob for a few minutes. As it did, Jacob could only stare at it. He tried talking to it. "Hello? ... What are you?" Jacob said curiously to the light. A few minutes passed, but the light still shown in place in front of him. Jacob decided to take a slightly different approach. Looking at the light, he decided to ask, "Can you help me get out of here?" A second later, the light suddenly shown brighter and brighter. It became so bright in that moment, that Jacob put a hand to his eyes, then closed them as it became far to bright for his eyes to handle.
Finally, the light dimmed significantly. Jacob could sense the change in lighting through his closed eyes. He opened them slowly. As he did, he put his arm down at his side. Once his eyes were fully opened, he noticed that there was now a pathway in front him that he was now standing on! As he gazed at the pathway, he noticed that it looked sturdy, but also reminded him of stained glass windows. The patterns on the path were both very beautiful and ornate. He took a step forward and waited a second. ... Nothing happened. He took another step, then another. "Wow!" he exclaimed. "This really is pretty sturdy! Beautiful too!" He looked ahead of him now. "I wonder where this leads." he thought to himself. He began to walk the path, curious as to where it would take him.
After a few minutes, Jacob noticed a lone structure at the end of the pathway. It was pretty base at best, being very cylindrical in nature. However, as he got closer, he noticed that there were stained glass designs all around it as well. Eventually, he finally made it to the top of the structure. In the center of the floor, was another light shining down on it. Jacob looked down to see what exactly the light was shining on. He stared at the designs all around him and walked around the edges of the structure. As he looked around, he spotted several that reminded him of dogs. Some of the designs looked human as well. But it was the picture in the center that captured his attention most clearly. It was larger than all of the others and was quite distinct. As he made his way back to the center, playing all of the images back in his own mind, it finally dawned on him who all of these images reminded him of. "Oh my gosh!" he exclaimed in great realization. "The one in the center! That's ... ME!" he looked around again. "And this one is ... Chase! ... And this one here is .... Marshall!" One by one, he named off all of his friends going around the circle. Rocky, Rubble, Zuma, Skye, Everest, Tracker, Ella and Tuck, even Ryder and Katie were here on this design! "He had made his way back to the center again. "What does all of this mean?" he asked himself aloud. "A very good question indeed. I imagine you're simply DYING to know." said a mysterious disembodied voice suddenly.
The voice came out of nowhere and scared Jacob so much that he jumped into the air. "Who is that?! Where are you?!" Jacob screamed while looking around wildly. Clearly no one was there physically. But, someone was, in fact, there. The voice was cool and calm, collected, and very much in control. "Did you know, that as you get closer and closer to light, the greater your shadow becomes?" asked the voice. Jacob stood there for a moment and pondered it. It was possible that he might not have learned it just yet in class. Then, without warning, Jacob was knocked off of his feet. He quickly whirled around while struggling to get back up and noticed to his horror, that his own shadow was moving! No. Not just moving, but growing! Jacob suddenly became very afraid and stood back up quickly to run back to the pathway. By the time he was able to run back to the path, he looked to see that it had disappeared right before his eyes! "Oh no!" he exclaimed. "What now?! He stopped just before reaching the edge and turned around. His shadow was absolutely ginormous! There was no telling here how big it was! All he knew is that is was coming right for him! The voice began to laugh manically as Jacob tried to run away from the giant shadow. Though it was massive, he noted that is was actually slow moving. "There is no one here who can save you now!" the voice exclaimed with triumph. All it took was one wrong move. Jacob tripped over himself out of fear. "No! .... NOOOO!!!!!" Jacob screamed. This was the end of him, he knew it in his heart. It was all over. At the last moment, just before the shadow's enormous hand wrapped around Jacob, there was another voice that pierced the darkness. It was a gentle voice, a kind voice, a familiar voice. "Don't worry Jacob. Giant Marshall is here to save you."
With that, a blinding light cut through the dark. A very large figure emerged from it and landed on the gigantic shadow creature. The sheer amount of force of exactly where he landed pushed the shadow to the other side of the arena, releasing Jacob from it's clutches. Jacob looked to see exactly who had saved him. Upon realizing exactly who it was, he felt the biggest smile spread across his face. "Marshall!" Jacob exclaimed with great excitement. The boy noticed that his Pup friend was just about as big as the mysterious shadow creature, he would gladly comment on the subject in the moment, however, it really didn't seem like the right time. "Hi Jacob! Did you miss me?" Marshall asked his tiny friend. "You bet I did buddy!" Jacob exclaimed with great relief. "If you don't mind, do you think you could give me some help against this weird shadow thing?" he asked the colossal Pup. "Marshall nodded with a smile. "Absolutely little buddy! Giant Pup assistance coming right up!" Marshall took a defensive stance carefully positioning himself with Jacob safely underneath him. The gigantic Pup began to instruct Jacob without taking his eyes off of the shadow menace. "Hide behind my front paw okay Jacob? You'll be safe there." Jacob was quick to heed Marshall's instruction. He headed toward the Pup's right front paw and secured himself there. "Okay!" he shouted. "I'm ready!"
Marshall acknowledged Jacob's confirmation with a head nod. "Alright then!" The Pup barked twice and shouted the words, "Water Cannons!" to activate the gear in his pup pack. The pup pack suddenly seemed to come to life bringing the gear of choice into place. It only took mere moments for this to occur. Once the gear was ready, Marshall looked to see what the shadow creature was going to do. The slow moving monster was preparing an energy ball attack. It was clear however, that Marshall did not want to waste any time in letting the creature live. The ginormous Pup let out another bark to signal the water cannons to turn on at full blast. Immediately the cannons did so. Powerful streams of water jettisoned toward the creature almost as fast as a hail of bullets. The attack sent the giant creature reeling back as if it had been badly injured. There was nothing the shadow could do to fortify itself against the speed of the water rushing towards it. Being so close to the edge now, the shadow was unable to judge it's footing and took a misstep off the edge. In one swift moment, one foot fell off the edge, then the other, and then the rest of the creature finally fell into the bottomless black abyss. Marshall barked once to turn the cannons off. Immediately, they instantly powered down. "Jacob!" the enormous Pup called to his tiny friend. "We did it! It's gone!" Jacob peeked from behind his friend's paw and saw that Marshall was right. "Alright! Yeah!! Way to go Marshall!" Just before the two friends could celebrate, a flash of light rose from the spot where the creature fell. It faded just as quickly, but was replaced with a big shining heart rising up higher and higher, eventually looking like it was being consumed by the darkness itself.
Marshall carefully backed away from his current position and knelt down carefully in front of Jacob, the Pups face close now to his human friends tiny frame. "Are you alright Jacob? You're not hurt are you? Tell me where it hurts. I'll fix you right up!" It was clear to Jacob that Marshall was in a panic over him. It wasn't uncommon for the Pup to act this way over him sometimes. After all, Jacob himself was a bit more fragile than most in some ways. Jacob could only smile at Marshall. He leaned in and hugged as much of the gigantic Pup as possible. "I'm not hurt Marshall. I'm perfectly fine thanks to you! You're the best, Bud!" Jacob said reassuringly. Marshall sighed with great relief. He was glad to know that Jacob was okay. Now that the threat had been properly apprehended, Jacob could finally ask the obvious question. "Hey Marshall, ... How did you get so big?" Marshall could only chuckle at Jacob's question. The Pup smiled as he looked on his friend and said, "Silly Jacob. This is a dream. ... Your dream. You're actually asleep. It's time for you to wake up now." Before Jacob could say one word in edgewise, he was suddenly bombarded by a series of dog kisses from Marshall. He began to laugh uncontrollably as each lick seemed to tickle even more so than the last. "Ha ha ha! Marshall! Ha ha! Stop! Ha ha ha!" Jacob tried to tell the Pup through his uncontrollable laughter. But it was no use. It looked like he just might wake up soon after all. Amidst all of this, Jacob felt himself transitioning from being asleep to being awake. He thought he heard a familiar voice in the distance. It was gentle and calm and had a bit of a sing song quality to it. "Jacob ... Wake up Jacob. ... Jayyyyycccoooobbbb. Wake up Buddy. It's time to get up now."
