Sketch a Day May #19 - P&P favorite situation
Sketch a Day May #19: P&P favorite situation - MtG Ravnica, unexpected help above the city
time spent: something around 4 hours 20 or so
After #15 (fanart P&P roleplay) isn't anywhere finished yet, #16 was a free day, #17 (warhammer NPC) is actually lacking a significant motif that would come to mind and #18 I was a bit clueless (and didn't feel so well), I finally got back on the tablet and drew what didn't appear all too bad actually.
This was a recent event and part of the grand finale of the major arc of our d&d Ravnica campain. The group was rushing to find the location of the big ritual that should summon an old god of Ravnica, therefor trying to get onto one of it's floating islands, the highest and most prominent of them. Halfway up the elevator cables that the party was in were blown up. Fortunately after 3 meters of fall the magical security system kicked in, stopped the cabin and created a stairway up (and down) that would escort the people into safety. All while a storm was going on, raining and certainly about hundred meters above the ground, they had to get up and got attacked by two gryphin riders (which I totally forgot to draw) and most importantly a flying simic krasis, which crashed and smashed into the stairs just below us, destroying that part and aiming for the other to cut us of or down. We just so managed to kill the first, when a second appeared out of nowhere. Then a recently befriended Dimir sphinx came for our help and fought with it, but the krasis was too much of a beast to deal with and things didn't look good, until a muse drake and friend of the group appeared out of the stormy clouds, attacking it and the three of them vanished into a battle between the rain and clouds.
My character Ravyetta (front right) didn't take the situation all that well. As a devkarin (Ravnica Dark Elf equivalent) she was high above the ground in stormy, rainy weather, the elevator cabin in which she already felt really uncomfortable had almost dropped down and now she was to climb up the stairs on a half transparent stairway. She climbed the stairs on all fours, always a hand on the "ground", whimpering and cursing until the fight was over.
Our Rakdos Goblin bard Draz, usually a chaotic and borderline ignorant little shit talker, was fulfilling the meme stereotype of a bard who was curious about laying the dragon instead of sleeping with it. Therefor here he was actually worried about Deep Blue, the befriended Muse Drake, which had grown to become a love interest.
In the Background from left to right the rest of our group: Mirakinal, Simic Halfelf-hybrid Monk, Iysa, a devkarin Golgari ranger, Varis, pacifist Selesnya Warloc wood elf with his skybinder's staff, Diego Dazlow, human Izzet sorcerer and healer of the group and Muhtig von Harthorn, Boros Minotaur fighter.
Check out
ascar_angainor and her artwork to see what appeared to be the final big boss of the campaign. And probably quite some foreshadowing for what's likely to become the level 20 big final fight and glorious end for our party and campaign - if we should ever make it that far.
