Phew. Last piece for the FC art show and it was a doozy. Whatever possessed me to do a five character pic in which all but one character is spotted! Ah well, I might complain but it was fun to do. Five different leopard species all snuggled down to sleep. A sequel to my Fox slumber party. More species slumber parties will most surely follow:) 14x14 acrylic on illustration board. Prints available.

Here's an interesting phenomenon, girls have no problem with this. 5 girls, one bed, underclothes only-who cares?
Males? Males would never do this, they would want spacesuits to sleep within 5 feet of one another.
I am so making this a favorite, it is beyond my powers to express it fully.

I only see three/four species there if you want to be technical =P Seeing black leopards are just melanistic (black fur) The black leopards do have spots you just have to be extremely close to see them. *late night ramble, forgive me ^v^;;)
Though over ll this piece is awesome, very well done.

Well, if you want to get technical there are only three true leopards in the pic. And one of them is a melanistic form but I'm going to say she's a Chinese Leopard so that makes three different ones:) In the paiting there are are African , Black (Chinese/Asian), Amur, Snow (not a true leopard) and Clouded (not a true leopard). I'll run into this problem when I do wolves too as I'll be throwing in Maned at the very least:)
Just a head's up of a very recent update. According to Wiki, taxonomists have concluded that snow leopards are not in fact more related to the cheetah, but as previously thought are of the genus panthera. A subspecies has been suggested, but currently they are thought of as a close relation to leopards. Same with clouded leopards.
Okay, so looking at their taxonomy, they're not leopards, but are considered in the same family enough to be thought of as such by the non-scientific folk :P

P.S.
I really don't know why it seemed so important for me to look into this. I guess because I consider myself a bit of an expert with felines and was surprised that I wasn't even sure what snow leopards and clouded leopards were classified as *shrugs*

Hey Heather .. wow this is SO CUTE your artwork surpass's all expectation's in any class cutness, design, texture, color, and of course the shear beautiful look and feel of it and the backround .... you are really a winner with this one ... it screems slumber party but when i took a look at it i was think of the words "my cats" i have no idea why but thats the kind of thing that your art does to me it INSPIRES me to hights i dont even know or think about TRULY well done Heather Bruton!
The leopards are from top left and going clockwise... African Lepard, Melanistic (black) leopard (any leopard can be black but I'm choosing to see her as a Chinese/Asian Leopard), Amur Leopard, Snow Leopard (not a true leopard) and Clouded Leopard (again not a true leopard).
very hot. Not what I'd expect from a fivesome of frisky felines in the same bed. Perhaps a followup to what happens when they get bored and have a steamy good morning ::snicker:: Nah... that'd prolly take twice as much time as this took. I'd definitely buy it if I were at FC... hell. I'd rather be in the middle wif em!
